Disturbing numbers. If you talk to enough people from Gen Z, you’ll notice a contempt for Israel that goes far beyond criticizing policy. It’s antisemitic and has its roots in the demonic. Woe is us if we don’t educate enough people to reverse this trend.

In 1972, 32% of Protestants were Baptists. It's 29% now. Methodists have dropped from 22% to 8%. Non-Denoms have risen from 3% to 30%.

The near complete absence of the Protestant/Evangelical pacifism big among academics & some clergy especially during Iraq War is notable. It effectively ended with Gen X. But will it ever return?

1975-1979 (Saigon fall to Shah’s fall) was nadir of USA in post WWII world. But we still had mature if sometimes feckless leadership, & Western alliance was intact. Not true today. Let’s pray the embers of USA moral & strategic strength reignite as they have in the past.

@TalbotDavis @MethodistView @ShaneRaynor @andymilleriii I agree. I think Wesley was the perfect “evangelical catholic.” I do wish modern Methodism would return to those Anglican roots, though. The Duty of Constant Communion, praying the daily office, etc. Charles, the more conservative Anglican brother, is worth listening to!

Those who try to "find themselves" by themselves, who start “from scratch” to self-make themselves, only end up scratching at an itch that has no bottom. Identity is not a sculpture you chisel and carve--it is a story God is already telling, one in which your name appears on the very first line, before you ever learned to read. You are born, not made. You are not a project to complete. You are a promise kept. You are a prayer--already answered, still unfolding, written in a hand that shook with love when it wrote your name. You are a gift still being unwrapped--slowly, tenderly, under a light that loved you into being long before you thought to ask whether you were worth loving. You are not the singer trying to find the song. You are the song God is singing. And it has never stopped.

The trend in some Methodist churches has been to move away from Methodism’s Anglican roots and shed most of the liturgical elements. That’s not really new… we’ve always had churches on both ends of the continuum. But I believe it’s good to lean into both the liturgical & evangelical parts of our tradition.

American religion changed dramatically in its first 75 years. Episcopalians and Congregationalists largely disappeared. Catholics rose by 7x. Methodists went from being a rounding error to the largest Christian group.
