His campaign emphasized affordability, immigrant protections and mobilized new/young progressive voters effectively. In short, his voters were disproportionately first- or second-generation immigrants, younger, and from non-white backgrounds, contrasting with lower support from native-born, older, or white/wealthier demographics. Turnout dynamics (higher among energized younger/immigrant blocs) played a big role in the win, with some due to a distaste for the alternative choices.
