In September 1917, a couple months before the Balfour Declaration was issued, Senior British Official Edwin Montagu, who was Jewish, investigated whether British Jews supported, were ambivalent about, or were opposed to Zionism. He concluded at least half were anti-Zionist. Contrary to the charlatanry of an @adam_louis52328, the internal Jewish arguments for antizionism were very often more or less the same as our arguments against Zionism today. I.E. that Jews were a religious community, not a nation or race or state. Montagu himself expressed his opposition to Zionism in these terms, rejecting the idea that "there is a Jewish people in the political sense" and that "any Jew who happens now to live in England, France, Italy, or America" is actually an "exile" from Judea.
