Placements at Parkruns don't really matter. Sometimes I'll finish 30th with a quicker time than when I've finished the same course in 20th place. What matters most is the time that you finish in. Which is ultimately just you competing with yourself. Nobody else.

@questionableway Stating that all people have to follow rules of fairness & equality, is not "outing" anyone. Sex & gender roles are not the same. Trans people are perfectly aware of their sex or they wouldn't be trans. Men don't get to subjugate women because they don't like being men.

BBC BROKE EQUALITY LAW AND GOT CAUGHT Carrie Gracie spent 30 years at the @BBC. She spoke fluent Mandarin. She ran the Beijing bureau. She was one of four international editors, two men and two women. Then in 2017 the BBC was forced to publish salary data. Gracie looked at what her male equivalent, the North America editor, was earning. He was on nearly double her salary. She had explicitly said equal pay was a condition of taking the China role. The BBC agreed. Then quietly paid her far less anyway. She asked for equal pay. The BBC offered her a raise that still left her below the men. She turned it down. She resigned from the China post in January 2018 and published an open letter telling the licence fee public exactly what their broadcaster was doing. The BBC then put her through nearly a year of an internal grievance process that went nowhere. It took three meetings with the Director-General and the threat of an employment tribunal before she got a public apology and the backdated pay owed to her. The total came to £361,000. She donated every penny to the Fawcett Society (@fawcettsociety), the gender equality charity. She said the fight was about principle, not the payout. A publicly funded institution, legally obligated to follow equality law, paid women less than men in identical roles, got caught, dragged it out for a year, and only coughed up under threat of a tribunal. That is not a pay oversight. That is a policy. Gracie did not ask for a favour. She asked for what she was owed. The BBC made her fight for it like it was a privilege. Kids get upset over playground football games. I've seen fights break out among men over pickup basketball games. Parents make their children play by the rules on family game night. When competitions and contests are unfair, no matter the level, they aren't fun. But god forbid women ask for and expect fairness at a highly organized, official community event.

(TW: optimism incoming.) Here's what I think will happen: 1) The IOC policy has been the outcome of many years of furious argument, but it's done. There won't be any scandals at #LA28, there won't be any big court cases, there won't be many ripples. A little space of male entitlement will be closed off. Trans identified men won't compete in the female category. It's over. 2) A change in Parkrun policy will come, in the next year or so, the outcome of many years of furious argument. It will get done. Parkrun will change the description of its categories on its website, and the trans-identified males will largely stop registering in the female category (or be deregistered, or something). There won't be any scandals, there won't be any big court cases, or many ripples. A little space of male entitlement will be closed off. It will be over. I think this, because there is a *tiny* element of truth in the TRA claim 'it's only a few, it's only sport, what's all the fuss about?' That's a *terrible* claim in many ways. But once women win this, there will be no stomach to re-fight it. There'll be a ratchet. In sport, at least, the win will be comprehensive and permanent. Tell me why I'm wrong.
