@HisenseSA The lack of response from your spares department is frustrating. Emails and calls are ignored. I was promised to get a call back from your Spares department…no one called. My last call was yesterday on ticket No. 2534454. Do you treat all your customers this way?

In Sandton, the audit partner signed off the financial statements of a mid-sized logistics company after a six-week audit. The numbers balanced, the controls appeared sound and the board received a clean opinion. Eight months later the company collapsed after investigators uncovered R380 million in fictitious revenue that had existed for years. A Thread.

NBC asked Iran’s Foreign Minister: “Why is Iran attacking U.S. bases in the region?” His simple answer: “Because you are attacking us.”

"She saved a stranger’s child with $15. Decades later, she discovered why he had been searching for her. In 1982, a Kenyan boy named Chris Mburu stood on the brink of losing everything. He was the brightest student in his rural district, studying by lamplight inside an earthen house without electricity. But his family could not afford his school fees. Without help, his education would end — along with any chance of escaping a life spent picking coffee in the fields. Meanwhile, across the world in Sweden, an 80-year-old kindergarten teacher named Hilde Back came across a notice for a child sponsorship program. She chose a name from a list: Chris Mburu, Kenya. She began sending $15 every school term. There was no recognition, no expectation of gratitude — just a quiet decision to help a child she believed she would never meet. That small amount changed everything. Chris stayed in school. Over time, he and Hilde exchanged letters. She asked about his teachers, his studies, and his dreams. Through her words, he realized she wasn’t just part of an organization. She was a real person who believed in him. And he never forgot her. Chris eventually graduated at the top of his law class at the University of Nairobi. He later earned a Fulbright scholarship to Harvard. He went on to become a United Nations human rights lawyer, helping prosecute genocide and crimes against humanity around the world. Yet one thing always weighed on his heart. He had never properly thanked the woman who made his journey possible. In truth, he barely knew who she was. In 2001, Chris founded a scholarship program for children like himself — talented students from poor families whose potential might otherwise be lost. He asked the Swedish Ambassador in Kenya to help him locate his mysterious sponsor so he could name the foundation after her. They found her. Hilde Back. Still alive. Still living quietly in Sweden. Chris traveled to meet her for the first time. He expected to meet a wealthy philanthropist. Instead, he found a humble, warm woman living simply — genuinely surprised that anyone considered her actions remarkable. Then filmmaker Jennifer Arnold began documenting their reunion. During her research, she uncovered something Hilde had never told Chris. Hilde Back had not been born in Sweden. She was born in Nazi Germany in 1922 to a Jewish family. At sixteen, when Hitler’s Nuremberg Laws banned Jewish children from attending school, strangers helped smuggle her to Sweden. Her parents stayed behind because Sweden’s refugee policies did not allow older Jews to enter. Both were later sent to concentration camps. Her father died there. Her mother disappeared, never to be heard from again. Hilde survived the Holocaust because strangers helped her escape. She lost her own education because of who she was. Fifty years later, she quietly paid for the education of a child across the world — a child who would grow up to fight the same hatred that destroyed her family. When Chris learned her story, he wept. Hilde, meanwhile, had no idea that the boy she sponsored had devoted his life to prosecuting genocide. In 2003, Hilde traveled to Kenya for the inauguration of the Hilde Back Education Fund. The entire village welcomed her as an honorary elder. In 2012, she returned again to celebrate her 90th birthday, surrounded by hundreds of children whose futures had been transformed through her generosity. Hilde Back passed away on January 13, 2021, at the age of 98. Today, the Hilde Back Education Fund has supported nearly 1,000 Kenyan children in continuing their education. Many have graduated from universities around the world. Many now give back — mentoring younger students and contributing monthly donations to support the next generation. One woman. Fifteen dollars. One child. That child created a foundation. That foundation changed hundreds of lives. And those lives continue to change others.

@talkcentss Agreed…freedom is limited in sectional titles….you don't have complete control. Add the exorbitant monthly levies it lags behind.

@Perserverist I believe so, I’d go one step further though and argue that the positives of freehold property outweighs the positives of sectional title too. Some value safety more while others may value autonomy more. So it’s subjective in nature.

These are my thoughts. 1. Why was polygamy ok then, will get you kicked out now? Polygamy was a time bound commandment, only required on certain individuals, with the purpose of establishing a strong community in the wild frontier. I credit it for our miraculous building of a strong and stable society across the West in relatively few years. There were plenty of instances where God commanded the Israelites to do something for a specific purpose, and the commandment ended when that purpose was fulfilled. Polygamy was practiced in Biblical times by prophetic figures, likely to fulfill a unique purpose at that time. With His purposes fulfilled, polygamy was no longer required, and was once again forbidden, as monogamy is God's clear preference. 2. What is the deal with the blood oath? Ancient covenants (or contracts) often included a clause to the effect of "should I break my oath, then let me die as this animal", with a sacrificed animal gestured to. See Genesis for an example. This same clause was present in the LDS temple ritual, but became more of a distraction than a powerful rhetorical expression. Since the symbolic meaning was lost to modern sensibilities, it was removed. 3. Why are Masonic symbols all over SLC temple and not any others? The symbols on the temple can be traced back much further than Freemasonry, which popularized them from the 17th c. onwards. The symbols were only borrowed or inherited by the Masons. The Utah pioneers thought that they were good images to use in the design of the temple. You will find similar (but more subtle) symbolism on most temples if you know what you are looking for. 4. What problems does your org have with child abuse and racism? Every organization must deal with bad individuals. The church has a very strong safeguarding system that protects the vulnerable. Available data shows the relative risk for children is much lower than most other social settings e.g. school, scout troops, other churches, etc. As for racism, I've never known it to be an instituational issue. Certain people look back to previous eras where the Priesthood was not accessible to those from a certain background. We don't know why, but the priesthood in the Bible was always exclusive. There are plenty of good resources about the church's relationship with race. Now we have very good relationships with different orgs and have a strong presence in countries around the world. 5. Do you only get to priest by paying money? No, you receive the priesthood based upon worthinessto serve as a representative of God. Worthiness includes being a tithe payer, as commanded since early Biblical days. Your ability to facilitate in the priesthood depends on your personal worthiness, which only you and God ultimately know. As you would expect in any faith, participation in sacred rites is contingent on heeding to God's commandments and repenting when you fall short. I hope this helps.

@LukeFHan @actsofapostles_ @OchoZaco @AndrewGGarrett Luke, you’re absolutely right. I also believe it’s crucial to have centralized control over the funds to ensure equitable distribution rather than just equal distribution. The needs aren’t the same across the world, so resources should be allocated accordingly.

I lived with Church members halfway around the world. Let me tell you how this benefits them. The Church is growing at a massive clip over there and their tithing doesn't pay for their chapels, temples, books, missions, etc. Even their garments are very subsidized by the Church. The membership in that area is doubling every 4-5 years. Even if that slows down to doubling every 7 years, in 35 years the membership of Africa will have grown 32x. That requires TONS of resources. And the Church will have to dip into their savings a lot to keep the work going in that region. In the future the Church might be running mostly off of the interest on the investments they've built up. So about that mall. That mall is very important for them because the money it pulls in (along with other investments) means that the Church can bring the blessings of the gospel to millions and millions of saints with little means, possibly in the very near future.

My wife disagrees with me on this so I’m interested in your takes. I think if someone donates to an institution (tithing) that donation should be taken care of. In my mind that means investing and growing that donation. My wife thinks that donation was given on purpose and should go directly to the cause. People in Southeast Asia aren’t sacrificing their livelihood so you can build a mall in SLC, Utah It’s a fun discussion and you’re invited if you have thoughts on the subject
