@thesanityrevolt I agree this is a major overreaction by some of my fellow Latter-day Saints. Also, we believe Jesus is divine. You know better than to say something like that Thursday.

If simply saying Joseph Smith wasn’t a prophet is “Mormon hate”, then the LDS teaching Jesus wasn’t divine is Christian-hate.

@LukeFHan I'm sorry but does Jacob write news articles on a major media company website or has debates? Debating isn't even close to just spewing hate in an article. I'm not sure if you are trolling us, trying to deceive us, or just like being abused by people who say they are our allies?

Let's lighten up on the persecution complex a tad. Jacob Hansen spent almost an entire debate talking about how the Pope falsely claims to be the successor of Peter. Catholics rightly did not accuse him of hating Catholics. Now apply this same reasoning to people who publicly say they think Joseph Smith is a false prophet. See the problem? I'm not saying don't go after Matt Fradd or others. I'm saying go after them for the right reason. Labeling it hate is the lazy and inaccurate way to respond and it feeds the narrative that Latter-day Saints have a persecution complex. I am wrapping up an >3500-word script for a response video to Matt. I'm probably putting more effort into debunking his Joseph Smith article this than the rest of X combined. So by all means disagree with me, just don't accuse me of going soft on people I like without explaining yourself.

Hey Luke, There is some truth in your post, especially regarding the persecution complex. So many of us grew up outside Utah having to defend our faith against lies like the ones Matt propagates. But there is a big difference between a debate, or even a conversation where arguments for both sides are presented. This is clearly one-sided and deliberate. DW is making a conscious choice here to try to push us out of the conservative collation they have worked for years to build. This was the final straw for me. I cancelled yesterday after many years as a premium subscriber. In their automated email asking me to reconsider they had the gall to say: "Freedom of speech, faith, and truth are under attack. Every member matters. Stand with us and keep your voice in the movement." And keep up the great apologetic work! @LDS_Dems I agree they've needlessly driven off some of the LDS audience. However they did layoffs back in March 2025 too. I think the impact of disaffected LDS is lower than people like to think.

Weird thing about the Daily Wire is that with all the crazies flocking over to the Tucker/Candace echo-system, just about the only principled people left who still care what Ben Shapiro thinks.....are disproportionately LDS. These Daily Wire layoffs are not really a surprise.

@kylestenson1 @DBF090 Ah yes, I see the problem. Those were posted recently, but that was the social media team taking his old stuff and reposting it. I remember the one about the witnesses and that was posted by Catholic answers and was a video from years ago.

I don’t remember the examples. I think one was about the number of witnesses and another was on golden plates not being able to contain the Book of Mormon and be at the size witnesses described. I do remember watching a few clips/shorts, social posts, and the debate with Jacob. Every time I go to the comment section people correct inaccuracies but they continue to I’m lumping Matt and Trent together here.

@LukeFHan @DBF090 You can’t really claim incompetence when he’s been corrected on his mistakes multiple times. Trent Horn does the same thing. They say something false or inflammatory, hundreds of people comment to correct their error but will disregard it and repeat the falsehood again.

@DBF090 @kylestenson1 I try to hold to the maxim "do not attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence" I also try to be charitable. Matt doesn't even represent the Catholic position well in his video. So I think incompetence is a much better explanation.

@LukeFHan @kylestenson1 No, not by itself. But IMO, that’s an overly simplistic framing. My issue isn’t that he rejects JS’s claims per se. It’s the obvious bad-faith, defamatory framing: “dubious character,” “moral failures,” & sexually charged claims presented in the most damning way possible.
