I should probably introduce myself. And let people know where I stand in regards to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I want there to be no mistake. I am Bryan Summers. I am 49 years old. I'll tell a little of my history and then bare my testimony. Below I'm on my favorite trail in the world. The Timberline Trail on Mt Hood.

But the quote from the Book of Madog is a lie. I won’t call you a liar, I’ve had too many good interactions with you to call you a liar. but I will say I’m surprised and a little confused that you haven’t deleted it. I do know another good quote that deals with Wales though, From A Man for All Seasons. One of my BYU professors quoted it when discussing cheating. “But Richard it profits a man nothing to gain the whole world if he should lose his soul… but for Wales?’

In other words, there is no actual evidence there was ever an old “Book of Madog” or any other document that said: "I, Madog, born of goodly parents, was taught somewhat in the learning of my father, nevertheless having seen many afflictions, therefore I make a record in my day as a vagabond upon the face of the earth." (Madog 3:1) It appears to be entirely made up anti-Mormon propaganda that was invented after the year 2000.

Joseph Smith stole from many sources for the Book of Mormon like the apocrypha (Tobit, Maccabees, Judith), Methodist sermons, and the story of Madoc (Madog) and other esoteric teachings. "In the Book of Mormon, Nephi writes: "I Nephi, being born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father;...there I make a record of the proceeding of my days". (1 Nephi 1:1) In the Book of Madog, by John Dee: "I, Madog, born of goodly parents, was taught somewhat in the learning of my father, nevertheless having seen many afflictions, therefore I make a record in my day as a vagabond upon the face of the earth." (Madog 3:1) Madog was a Welsh prince who purportedly sailed to America in the 12th century. They had wars with the Indians. The son of Madog was Mor Awnyry (pronounced "More-On-ih-rih")" Joseph Smith was a known freemason and scryer and incorporated lots of esoteric secret society mythology into the Book of Mormon.

Mormons refuse to acknowledge the possibility of Joseph Smith having prepares for months or years before dictating the Book of Mormon. Against Edward’s wishes I asked his own question to Gemini and I am even more convinced that Smith deeply rehearsed the BoM. Read what AI said:

I had an interaction with a critic of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the other day that has fundamentally changed my views on the Church and the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. After some back and forth about one of a dozen recycled anti-Mormon tropes he asked me a question; what evidence did I need to see to prove that Joseph Smith was false prophet and that the Church was founded on a lie? I had to pause and think about my answer. I don’t want to tie my testimony of the Restored Gospel to an event, person, or policy. That seems like an easy way to have my convictions undermined. But I also don’t want to come off as a zealot acting on blind faith, either. After thinking for a while I answered; I would need to have a significant spiritual experience equal to or greater than the experience I had when I first read The Book of Mormon, or the first time I went to the Temple, or when I got married, or when I first held my kids. I’d need an experience so significant that it would outweigh my previous experiences. The conversation ended there. My testimony of the Restored Gospel comes from God, as revealed through the Holy Ghost. God is the objective source of all truth. I may not have all the answers. Some of my beliefs may not make logical sense. But God has made it very clear to me that objective, eternal truth is found in the Restored Gospel and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

No, the criticism concerning Madog is not accurate. There is no historical "Book of Madog" (or "Madoc 3:1") by John Dee with that quoted text paralleling 1 Nephi 1:1. Dee referenced the medieval Welsh Madoc legend in 16th-century manuscripts to support British imperial claims to America, but the specific first-person "record" phrasing, "Mor Awnyry" pun, and book citation trace to unsubstantiated claims in anti-Mormon writings from ~2003 onward, with no primary source evidence.

And the proposed “solution” here is essentially: “Joseph must have secretly spent years building an invisible mental database sophisticated enough to retrieve massive narrative structures in real time.” At some point these theories stop simplifying the problem and merely relocate the miracle.

Talking to my son in Brooklyn during his lunch at a restaurant. Unknown to me, he starts choking. He stands up, goes to the next table with his hands on his neck, a women says ‘he is choking’, a dude does the Heimlich, and dislodges the food. 30-45 second later he’s telling me what happened. I had no idea. Thank you to these good folks in Brooklyn ❤️ Let’s all know how to do the Heimlich.

I want to try and put the Daily Wire/Matt Fradd/LDS dustup in context. Many of you probably remember Father Richard Neuhaus, Catholic apologist, and founder, editor and frequent contributor to First Things. I enjoyed a lot of his cultural commentary, but he was not, to be blunt, a fan of the LDS faith. He wrote many hard-hitting and critical essays of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. BUT, when he stated a caricature of the LDS faith, he was willing to be corrected. When LDS challenged his interpretations of the faith, he would often steelman the LDS position, but then explain why he thought those were inadequate or wrong. He was a tough and tenancious opponent, but a fair and honest one. And he NEVER, to my knowledge, resorted to epithets, like calling our faith "demonic" or sourced his understanding of the faith from obviously polemical and bigoted sources like The Godmakers. He also never resorted to inciting or provocative language like saying he wished all our books could be burned. When you compare the two side by side, it's clear where the line is and how it was crossed. And after Michigan, I am not inclined to give the benefit of the doubt as much as I used to.

@oldstatemark On the day one of our churches was shot up. Do you disavow this statement, or at the very least the timing of it? Do you acknowledge it was insensitive?

I just spoke with a Mormon at a meet and greet in the Idaho Falls area. He told me he was concerned about voting for me because people are accusing me of hating Mormons on social media. After 5 minutes, he understood my heart. And he was not worried about voting for me anymore. It probably helped I told him about my Mormon attorney I spoke with today and a Mormon’s podcast I’m filming on tonight. Also, I was hosted at a Mormon friend’s house last night. Also, I’m endorsed by Mormons including Ammon Bundy. I don’t hate Mormons. That’s ridiculous.

Worth your consideration:

@TeeplesCY Joseph → LDS church Betrayed, sold, imprisoned → Early Saints persecuted, driven, martyred. Rose to save Egypt from famine → church prospers in the desert. From pit to palace, feeds his betrayers → Church now delivers vast humanitarian aid globally to millions. Gen. 37-50

I mean, come on! An ancient submarine? Sealed top and bottom? A stoppable air-hole? Sixteen glowing stones touched by the finger of God on a mountaintop to see in the dark? How did Joseph Smith think he'd get away with this crazy story? Turns out, every detail he described has been uncovered in MULTIPLE ancient texts which were UNKNOWN in 1829! Enter, the Jaredites! youtube.com/watch?v=RJ_isi…

You guys have been mesmerized. It's the only thing that makes sense. So I started researching what was popular and available at JS's time about mesmerization, and it lines up exactly with what he would have been into, since he used seer stones, a divination tool, for treasure hunting. Then I asked if there was a way to precondition people to feel a physical sensation through the written word and the directions in those books. You're under a spell, guys.

How did The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints respond when Broadway mocked its sacred scripture? It purchased an advertisement in the playbill.

@TeeplesCY That was my dad. He was consulting with Bon Com back then and said to lean into it. My favorite was the ad in the playbill. The Book of Mormon play was one of the best missionary tools looking at the data.
