The Mars Organic Molecule Analyzer (MOMA) is a sophisticated instrument designed to detect and analyze organic compounds on Mars, crucial for searching for signs of past or present life. MOMA uses ultraviolet laser pulses to ionize and analyze organic molecules, preserving delicate molecular bonds. It employs advanced mass spectrometry techniques, including laser desorption and a linear ion trap, to distinguish complex molecules.
