Well because of population density being mostly concentrated in Ontario and the people in the East being mostly left leaning, this means elections are often called before the polls in the West even close. It literally means our votes don't matter. The country then proceeds to form policies and laws to the detriment or in opposition to the belief systems, culture, and preferred ways of life by Western peoples in Alberta. Our interests are so vastly different and they're not being protected or cared about at all. Our futures, fates, interests are being decided by people who live more than a 3 days drive away who have never even stepped foot on the land here. With 10+ years of federal liberal government and no balancing of the scales (most democracies see an ebe and flow or rotating of governments every few years) this isnt the case for Canada. It appears Canada is stuck in a permanent federal super majority. Despite the country spiraling downward economically with housing, homelessness, substance abuse, and health care specialist wait times. Why would Albertans want to be a part of a larger group that continually forces a way of life, political beliefs, oppositional economics on it? There's zero compromise or listening to the people of Alberta. If they decide to leave fairly and democratically thats up to them.

The article then proceeds to compare Alberta to Scotland. And this guy's credentials state he researches European history (among other things). Scotland? Really? Of all the places... Even if you have never read a book on Scottish history, let's not forget that some of the pioneers in Alberta were Scots. For some reason, this is not mentioned in the plot. There's a bunch of other things I mulled over, but didn't read properly, so I can't really give an opinion on, but... As for something being "never done before"... You can literally say that about anything, as nothing was done before the first time it was done. But something "never been done before" didn't stop it from happening the first time, did it? Saying something can't be done because it hasn't been done before is a slap across the face to every innovator, everywhere. This opinion piece is rubbish (IMO). If you're going to be pro or anti separation, at least make valid points worth reading.

Why are you ok with our vote being worth less than the rest of Canada, much less? Why are you ok that the vote of a member of the Enoch Nation in Alberta, is worth less, much less, than a member of the Mi’kmaw nation of the Annapolis valley?? Why are you ok that the vote of a member of the LGBT…. community of Calgary is worth less than someone who lives in Charlottetown?
