Well, the Dodgers ARE the world champions of professional baseball, having beaten - well, YOU know whom they beat. Like the other American-created game, basketball, baseball has spread enough that American dominance is not guaranteed, any more than it is guaranteed that an American born person will be the CEO of a successful American technology company. This is good for the sport since there's uncertainty in the outcome and that makes for a better game, and Americans don't begrudge a Venezuela win when it was a fair and square victory that resulted from superb playing. The reality is we know we have to EARN a victory to win in a sport whose popularity has spread so far that many of the very best players are not American. We don't believe we're entitled to victory the way many Canadians seem to feel about their hockey team.

America having a rare chance to legitimately call themselves world champions at one of the sports they invented and bottling it is very funny.
