You know that feeling when your husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend gets mad at what you’re saying, simply because it’s coming from you? And what you say is actually irrelevant? They’re already angry. That’s what happens to the entire continent of Europe everytime an American says anything about soccer. Instant rage. Zero listening to the point. Instant “you wouldn’t understand.”

you'll see someone on here say "americans have no culture" and it'll turn out to be some 42 year-old british guy who has only ever engaged with his country's culture through calling people slurs at manchester united games and beating his wife whenever they lose

@OregonHomer It's more like: Americans who've watched the sport for two weeks: "Change all the rules because I don't understand them!!"

As an American I’ll probably get roasted for saying this, but why don’t y’all just get rid of goalkeepers? Soccer would be way less boring if the score was like 48 to 72

@BethFisherSport They should've changed it to 8 groups of 6, top two go through. Then all the shit teams still get to play 5 games, and it goes straight to a round of 16

Anyone else found the group stages of this World Cup utterly boring? Whilst having 48 teams has produced super cute stories like Cape Verde, it’s not been enough to fill the void of big group games with knockout qualification jeopardy.

@mdixonair Yes that's what we did before VAR VAR is brand new. It hasn't been well implemented yet.

@Gee__Gazza There's only one football that matters and it's not the one where little phaggots flop on the floor. American football is the best even if the world is too retarded to figure it out.

I’m looking forward to the Americans not giving a shit about football again after the World Cup. Their opinions on rules about a sport they’ve just discovered and arrogance to think the rest of the world cares what they think is giving me a migraine.

@wilkesneil @ReynardRoux There's much more scoring in baseball than soccer. It's not a close call. And, yes, Americans have clamored for MLB to make improvements to the game and the league has done so.

A lot of Europeans attempting to defend the offsides rule in soccer make analogies to US sports that make no sense b/c they don't understand US sports. They also don't get how the offsides rules, as rigidly applied as we've seen, adds no value to the sport.
Jon Benne@LordBenne

It's so funny how American fans respond to the soccer offside rule, as if our biggest sport doesn't have an entire army of 8K cameras to determine by how many half-inches the ball is a first down or not.

@LukeAmos__ Which is 163 years ago. It has been refined several times, but it is a fundamental aspect of the sport. You've been watching it for 2 weeks.

@LukeAmos__ You would end up with every attacker positioned on the goal line. So every defender would also position themselves on the goal line. Turning it into a 110-yard long-kicking game. Which is exactly what happened before the rule was introduced in 1863.

If some "Dude watching every 4 years" is smart enough to know the rule needs addressing (either the rule itself or how addressed with VAR), I say "Bully for them" because they would be correct.
Joe Schad@schadjoe

FIFA’s Chief of global football development, Arsene Wenger, not just some dude on X who watches the sport every four years, wants a change to offside rules which would state a player is offside ONLY when there is “clear daylight” between the attacker and defender.

Of course the offside rule is necessary in soccer. Without it people might actually score some goals
