The reason soccer fans are crashing out over offsides rule change suggestions is cause they know offsides is a shitty rule

Hey soccer fans, it’s okay to admit the sport isn’t perfect. Offsides needs 3 rule changes:
- No offsides on free kicks
- No offsides if any part of the defender is in-line with the offensive player
- change “two defenders” to “one non-goalkeeper”

A lot of Europeans attempting to defend the offsides rule in soccer make analogies to US sports that make no sense b/c they don't understand US sports. They also don't get how the offsides rules, as rigidly applied as we've seen, adds no value to the sport.

Why on earth do teams not mark everyone that’s within 20 yds of the goal at all times?
Particularly on a corner when you have almost your entire team zoning in the box on D?

I wonder if it would make things better if soccer implemented a challenge system like most major sports in the US use where each team gets 2 challenges and calls only go to VAR when challenged. Or you could have unsuccessful challenges cost a team a sub.

the real solution to the offside rule debate is to draw lines on the field like hockey to determine thirds of the field: if the ball is in the last third, there’s no offsides.
i concede that having guys standing near the goal for 90 minutes would be a problem, but if an attacking team has the ball in the last third, the defensive team should not get to decide where the other team’s players can stand.

Whats strange about soccer: It employs absurd mathematical precision to police offsides, a rule that mostly matters in spirit rather than in strict application. (You just don't want cherrypicking) But its extremely casual about timekeeping, whose literal application matters a ton

They need to adjust the rule to where if there is clearly no competitive advantage they shouldn’t call offsides. Having his toes offsides is no different than if they were onside.

The battie should be allowed to swing unlimited times. And get rid of that weird out of bounds line.
And make it so they get a house run each time they hit.
