The left smeared the beautiful and historic Red Ensign as a symbol of white nationalism, despite 115,000 war dead having given their lives under the Ensign, notably in the defeat of fascism. Then the right wing convoy movement adopted Canada's National Flag as its symbol, until it morphed into the separatist movement and dropped the maple leaf like a hot potato. Justin Trudeau shamefully lowered our national flag for half a year in a humiliating ritual of national abasement. Now lefties are trying to stigmatize the display of our beautiful Alberta flag. All of this reflects the sad contemporary tendency to infect everything with politics. But flags are pre political. They are unifying symbols designed to be a focal point of common loyalty and devotion. Let's treat them that way.
