The gymnasium was still vibrating with the echoes of our epic triple-overtime playoff victory against Duxbury. Amid the celebration and exhaustion, a single moment would define the night more powerfully than any final score.
Emily Keller, daughter of Duxbury Coach Brian Keller (a long time assistant here at WH with hall of fame Jim Daley), stood outside our team's celebration room. Her eyes, bright with tears, told the story of her team's recent defeat. But there was something extraordinary about Emily—a luminous spirit that transcended the simple essence of winning and losing.
With Down syndrome, Emily sees the world differently—more purely, perhaps. Where others might have felt bitter or disappointed, she chose connection. Her small hands formed a perfect heart against the glass, her lips carefully shaping the words "I love you" to our jubilant team.
Our players, who have known Emily for years, understood immediately. This wasn't just a gesture, but a profound lesson in grace. Emily has long been their unexpected teacher, showing them that compassion is the highest form of competition.
I opened the door, and she entered—not as an outsider, but as part of our extended basketball family. Hugs were exchanged, congratulations offered, her own disappointment seeming to dissolve in the warmth of mutual respect.
As Emily walked back down the hallway, alone but unbroken, she carried with her a victory far more significant than any championship trophy: the victory of the human heart.

#WATCH: Best thing you’ll see today!
Coleman Walsh, a senior at Walpole High suffering from William’s Syndrome, has been the hockey manager the last 4 years.
The senior suited up today — and scored the opening goal on Senior Night.
Safe to say he took it all in 🥹. @boston25
If the Boston Bruins decide to pull the plug on Don Sweeney after the season, letting him handle this crucial NHL trade deadline is a risk.
Minnesota Wild director of amateur scouting Judd Brackett, a Massachusetts native, should be atop the Bruins wish list for a replacement.
VEES WIN!
Ben Merrill scores twice, Landon Wright adds a single and Will Ingemann picks up his 14th win of the season as the Vees take over sole possession of first place in the BCHL standings after their 8th win in a row!
Head scouts LOATHE giving up 1st-round picks. Judd Brackett says #mnwild weren't going to get anything close to Jiricek in mid-20s and this was well worth risk
Judd Brackett to @TheAthletic: "If you look at the Wild, under 22 on the back end, you’re looking at Faber, Jiricek, Buium and Wallstedt on that goal line. That’s a pretty strong way to build not just for current success but long term too."
ICYMI: @HWSAthletics' Erin Murray garnered #NEHC Goaltender of the Week honors after stopping 42 of 44 shots over the weekend, including a 17-save clean sheet on Saturday🧱 The senior netminder finished the weekend with a .99 GAA and a .955 SV%. Congrats, Erin👏
