The Irish went historically to nations that were once part of the British Empire. Their presence in those nations was tied to expulsion and survival due to systemic clearances. The British empire needed strong backs and sent the Irish out to build Australia out of the sand, to take on the most dangerous jobs in the UK. The free republic of America took in Irish similarly to build their cities and man their industrial growth. During the peak of post famine emigration, citizenship came with a rifle and uniform to go fight in the Civil War. Many fought and died. Not only did the Irish who were forced abroad pay for their right to be in those lands with sweat and blood, they incurred no debt on those left behind. Quite the opposite. Their impacts in nation building is such that the Irish still travel (legally) and are celebrated in those nations today. No Irish person who went to these lands were put up in 5 star hotels with full bed, board and walking around money. Either you are embarrassingly historically ignorant, or you are embarrassingly politically biased. Judging from your sweary rants on this thread - I'm going with biased and ignorant.
