Muirkirk in East Ayrshire was today’s fourth and final 9 holer. This is a rugged moorland with some eye catching backdrops. The par 4s are generally short except for the uphill brute at the demanding 5th. Finished with three 3s (-2) so went home happy but weary. 😉 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿424

New Cumnock is a beautifully presented parkland, offering 9 holes of variety, challenge and fun. The conditioning of the course is exemplary, the best of the four I played today; kudos to the greenkeepers. 👏 There are some mild elevation changes, adding to the intrigue. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿423

@SanquharGolf is an attractive 9-hole parkland that’s both playable but tricky, comprising 2 par threes and 7 par fours. The signature hole is the 9th, a long par 4 from the yellow tees, or a more manageable par 5 from the whites to a sunken, hidden green. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿422

@LeadhillsGolf is the highest course in Scotland. The terrain and remote feel is reminiscent of the Highlands rather than South Lanarkshire. With blind shots and punchbowl greens, fun is guaranteed on this unique and elevated landscape. Really enjoyed the course. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿421

Wonderful sun-kissed evening playing ‘fouranback’, the 9 hole course @GlenGolf (first 4, last 5). Really enjoyed using some of my longer hickory clubs too. Sublime, sun-kissed evening; some of the best golfing views in Scotland. Course is in impeccable condition. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿420

@FalkirkGolfClub (Carmuirs) is a Scottish Golf championship venue, deservedly so. It’s exacting at times but always fun. The back 9 offers three par 3s, 4s and 5s, so there is variety aplenty in this testing James Braid parkland. Also played the par 3 Antonine. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 418 & 419

Bonnybridge is a lovely parkland that charms and challenges, ebbing and flowing across gently rolling terrain. My expectations were smashed out of the park, this really is a fine layout. The 9 holes offer 2 inviting par 5s and 2 attractive par 3. Great fun indeed. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 417

The Wee Course at the Melville and the Shirehaugh at Musselburgh; both six short holes with tiny greens. Ideal for beginners, short game sharpening, or hickory fun. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿414 and 416

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿415: Fisherrow Links could have been part of golfing history. By late 19th century, the Open had outgrown the 9 hole and 6 time host Musselburgh Links. Plans to extend using Fisherrow links were debated but ultimately disregarded, consigning M’burgh to the Open history books.

Really enjoyable early round at Whitehill House with Archerfield Pro Oli Morton @ChangeTheGame. “was great to get a free golfing lesson” … said Oli 😉 The highlight is the stupendous 2nd (Ramsay’s Revenge) over a ravine, guarded by trees to an elephant’s grave green. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿413

There is no such thing as a non-picturesque Arran golf course but Lochranza must be up there with the best for scenic splendour. It really is gorgeous. Whichever way you look, it is wondrous; trees, burns, deer, dramatic clouds, mountains, sea, even a castle! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 411/600

Two islands, three courses, six ferries. It’s been a manic Monday. Blairmore & Strone is not for the faint hearted as only 3 of the holes go downhill (6, 7, 9), the other 6 ascend, offering expansive views over to Dunoon, Gourock, Holy Loch and down the Clyde. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 412/600

Loved Gigha! It is evident that the volunteers look after this remote and diminutive island course with TLC, there is lovely definition and the setting is just as attractive. It’s relatively flat so an easy stroll around 9 holes; perfect for the hickories. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 410/600

Kyles of Bute is an elevated 9 hole beauty, spectacularly overlooking the Isle of Bute just over the water. Every hole offers a feast for the eyes but especially so from the 5th. The 9th tee is sublime, a picture perfect conclusion to a round in a gobsmacking setting. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿409/600
