The 9th Hole: Eglinton. This 444-yard par 4 bears the name of our first Captain, the 13th Earl of Eglinton, a fitting tribute to one of Prestwick's most distinguished founding figures - albeit belated. The hole was created in 1882, 31 years after his post.

We opened our Scotland trip with a round at Prestwick - an appropriate beginning, since this links, designed by Old Tom Morris in 1851, hosted the first 12 Open Championships. For me, a highlight of the round and of the trip was playing the original Alps hole - Prestwick’s 17th - that served as the inspiration for C.B. Macdonald’s ideal Alps template, which he built as the 3rd at National Golf Links and several others. Add the Himalayas 5th, a terrific blind, uphill par-3 over a wall, and the par-4 1st, playing hard against a stone wall separating the course from a train line? And Prestwick is truly like playing golf in an outdoor museum. #LinksGemsScotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our remarkable 13th green in 1928, surrounded by eager and well-dressed spectators. On the green you can see T P Perkins putting under the watchful eye of Roger Wethered, whom he was en route to beating 6&4 in the Amateur Championship final.

I’m not sure we’ve ever seen such a sensitive project executed so well. The dark wood, the furnishings, and the history on the walls are all top notch, while the smoking room and dining room rightfully remain untouched 👏🏼
