A pleasure to play a small part in nurturing the next generation of golfers here in Ayrshire. The Ayrshire Elite & Development squads wrapped up their pre-season programme @PrestwickGC on Sunday – great energy, commitment and talent on show. Best of luck to all players for the season ahead 👏🏌️‍♂️

It’s #GolfHistoryFriday! Let’s take a look at the famed 17th hole (Alps) at @PrestwickGC - the oldest hole in championship golf! Always a stunning sight. Prestwick is gearing up to celebrate its 175th anniversary this year - having been founded in 1851. And with the clubhouse interior restoration about to be completed, it’s going to be a tremendous year for the club. @prestwickgcpro

The long par-4 13th, Sea Headrig, at @PrestwickGC. The natural undulations of the land at Prestwick are always mesmerizing to see. Largely indicative of links golf as a whole. It forces creativity in ways that’s nearly impossible to replicate anywhere else. #GolfHistory @prestwickgcpro

One of my favorite photos from our Scotland trip in August: The wicker baskets on the putting green at @PrestwickGC. Nope, Merion didn’t invent them! Hugh Wilson, designer of Merion, actually got his inspiration when he saw them at Prestwick. #GolfHistory @prestwickgcpro @GrahamPGC1

On 17 October 1860, the very first Open Championship teed off to crown golf’s greatest player, following the death of Allan Robertson a year earlier – the man many considered the best of his era. Played over three rounds on Old Tom’s 12-hole routing at Prestwick, Willie Park Sr claimed the title (and the Championship Belt), sparking one of golf’s oldest and most loved tournaments. To celebrate the Championship’s birthday, here’s a look back at the 12 holes where it all began, 165 years ago today: bit.ly/3W71FX8
