Thank you to the amazing @MelissaFleming, one of my #sheroes, for the opportunity to be part of my fave #podcast and for sharing what keeps me #AwakeatNight in #Afghanistan
Melissa Fleming 🇺🇳@MelissaFleming

When people started leaving, @UNICEF’s @SamMort9 remained in Afghanistan, along with other @UN colleagues, to help children as they face hunger and fear. Listen to her stirring stories of loss, reunification & hope on our podcast 'Awake At Night'. bit.ly/3hIjl7o

He also noted: “Our education curriculum should be experiential and practical, linking education with what's happening in the world. Lessons could include carbon trading, carbon credits and green bonds. And it must be FUN, presented in a way that students want to engage.”

18yr old Rangeta told me, “This is the first time we’ve received craftmaking workshops. They were so much fun, and I got new confidence. I made a bonsai tree with wire; I’d never done that before.” Thank you @UNICEFinJapan and @GovernAndorra

When @UNICEFBhutan says #foreverychild, they mean it, including those in rural communities. It took 2hrs to travel 28kms to meet students who received skills-building through RENEW, a local civil society org. And gosh, were they thrilled to have been given the opportunity!

The appalling scenes in Gaza are unrelenting. The UK will pull every lever we have to get food and lifesaving support to Palestinians, and we will evacuate children who need urgent medical assistance. This humanitarian catastrophe must end.

“Are you a jungleman?” 😳 Well, there’s a first time for every question. I pointed to my @UNICEF badge and explained how we help children go to school, stay healthy, drink clean water and feel safe. “That’s nice,” a wee voice said. Nice — and necessary. @UNICEFBhutan

Just some peace and quiet and calm from #Bhutan, a country and a people that revere nature, protect the environment and elevate kindness. World leaders could learn a lot from the gentleness and patience Bhutan practises daily, especially towards children. 🙏🩵 @UNICEFBhutan

Frightening news from #Pakistan as monsoon rains lash the country. Sad to hear that 85 children have lost their lives. Strengthening communities’ ability to withstand these increasingly fierce rains must be a priority. @UNICEF_Pakistan is on the ground ready to support.
UNICEF Pakistan@UNICEF_Pakistan

UNICEF is alarmed by the devastating monsoon floods in Pakistan, claiming the lives of 85 children since June, including 22 in Punjab in the last 24 hrs. We are coordinating with the government & partners & stand ready to respond with emergency supplies unicef.org/pakistan/press…

Good news for children in South Asia - the region immunized a record-high number of children in 2024. It’s a strong bounce back & surpasses pre-COVID levels. This is what concerted leadership achieves - governments, donors & partners Read @UNICEFROSA PR shar.es/agxOVh

Unprecedented scenes on the Islam-Qala border between Afghanistan & Iran. Thousands crossing each day. Children and women are in desperate need of water, sanitation, hygiene, medical help and mental health support. @UNICEFROSA Regional Director @S_Wijesekera saw it firsthand ⬇️
UNICEF South Asia@UNICEFROSA

Thousands of children are crossing into Afghanistan every day at Islam-Qala and urgently need help. @S_Wijesekera saw firsthand how @UNICEFAfg & partners are providing life-saving care to children. “A lot is being done, but the needs are huge,” he says.

Overwhelming numbers of people, including children, on the Iran/Afghanistan border. As they cross, tired, disoriented & anxious, @Unicef is there to support them. A bottle of water. Healthcare. A safe space to pause and think. But we need help. Intnl community must step up.
Sanjay Wijesekera@S_Wijesekera

I visited Islam Qala on the Afghanistan-Iran border. 20,000-30,000 people are crossing daily, inc. children. UNICEF & partners are providing vaccinations, nutrition, clean water & safe spaces, but the needs are huge. The international community must support these children.
