Played since 2015, the game and devs actively encourages you to leave between patches because the patch cycle is notoriously bad which they attribute to not being able to get enough game developers as they only hire japanese speaking talent.
They actively want a bigger team to work more content and patch cycles, stated multiple times but they refuse to "poison their well with western game devs" as they indicate.

Skip 250 hours of story as you like to play a few hours of raids. But once you finish the raid encounters and get bored, don’t complain about the game having nothing to offer. You skipped 250 hours and more of what else it has to offer.

It’s 2026, we are gonna be 6 expansions deep into FFXIV soon. Can we stop with the weird gatekeepy behavior if someone doesn’t want to play through 250 hours of story to be able to play some of the best MMO raid encounters ever made? Heaven forbid someone asks you a small lore question if they start getting interested in the story after starting the game 10 years late. Are we really gonna keep driving people away with this weird NIMBY ritual? Just use your social skills (lol) and answer the small question, suggest they start a story alt on their downtime, or direct them to a synopsis video on YouTube. Crying about “story skippers” this deep into a game’s development cycle is peak cringe. If they set up a skip to Dawntrail for new characters to jump into the new story arc I and many others feel like it would be beneficial for the game’s long term health. While the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc is great storytelling it’s also not a sacred cow for people to clutch pearls over. At the end of the day, it’s a game to be played. We’re all better than this and should start acting like it.

@dreamwaterzoo @ManoThigasx That is completely fair and game pricing outside of Western Europe and NA is often times way too big in comparison to average wages.
I wish regional prices could be made more fair without abuse of key resellers. But I believe piracy is more than fair in these circumstances!

@SoVeryDazed @ManoThigasx I largely think OP is saying piracy is better because they are in Brazil where they really don’t have much money and piracy is simply more accessible. Then the rest is coping by just naming some potential benefits of piracy and ignoring what else steam offers.

@ManoThigasx While steam isn't technically ownership of a game, for me the service provided outweighs that of piracy. I can freely install games without need for seeds or NAS. No schizo dunovo crackers spreading gospels of the lord in their cracks. No need for private network tools, etc

@swefinnik @VFinnishProbs You forgot to mention that Finland would be gone to USSR's Imperialism if they refused. The USSR forced an alliance against them as the only way to stop their imperialism. It's a common eastern block tactic to unite your enemies against you with your sad attempts at annexation

In 1939, the Soviet Union sent 1.2 million men, 2,300 aircraft and thousands of tanks into Finland. Finland mustered 340,000 men, 114 aircraft and 32 tanks. They held the Red Army for 105 days.
They fought another three years from 1941, then drove the Germans out of Lapland in 1945. The country was never occupied.

The people who engage with mmo's exclusively for the endgame content are core to the issue with the genre. They burn everything to get to the end game, finish it, and squeal for more content ignoring the fact that they skipped 90% of the game.
Also FFXIV is a story driven game.

@ClanataaAmih @snark_talks You still need to buy the game, the expansion and 2-4 months of game time to reach end game without a skip potion depending on how much free time you have.
You are locked out of end-game regardless, it's either 3 months of story only or a skip potion

@rusty_nl It's kinda biased, the only people voicing opinions are the players who love the story, those that aren't invested long term either rush through, buy or drop the game. I have had friends who never made it to level 70 and 80 back in the day cus they couldn't😄

@SoVeryDazed I think it's important to keep in mind that a game isn't just its endgame though, especially with such a good story. I like helping new players through dungeons and etc and hearing their reactions to the twists and turns along the way, it doesn't seem like many are annoyed by it

@rusty_nl But ~20 days of 5 hours before I can raid as someone who missed 2 expansion is really rough. Can't join all my friends who are doing end-game for a month as a return player. I understand it's a turn of for new players when they get sold on ultimates / raids etc.

@rusty_nl Used to run story on an alt and rush on main for doing content with friends asap on patch days. FFXIV story is its main selling point but it boasts a lot of quality outside of it that are locked away from new players. This being all group content where a person isn't boosting you
