Probably the most pedantic rebuttal you could have come up with. I could bring up the data you want but it wont change the overall picture. Violent crime rates, like the stock market, will leap up and down from year to year but we can see long term trends in them. They're not good. Police and politicians like to pretend they're doing a good job, it's why they make silly bold claims like "It's better than it was last year" and ignore the long term trends that continue regardless of who is elected.
