@Gabriel64869839 Looks like a "Isreali" Cam net top right? Not sure why people keep trialling them, they are 100x better than a nornal Cam net. COs using innovation funding every year to buy more and more.

@thinkdefence Could've bought 1000x for £25m. Thats back of sofa money. £100m will get you 80% of the fleet.

@Gabriel64869839 Fleet is absolutely destroyed. However with new radios coming online it reduces the need for FFRs. A absolute basic Hilux/Ranger for £25k would do the job for 80% of the needs.

@BearJFK @thinkdefence Not sure who's told you? Theres been news reports for years about there availability. Shocking vehicle. Good on paper, but extremely maintenance heavy and no spares.

@SpannerOperator @thinkdefence Really? Not what I heard. Or is it because they’ve failed to maintain them for lack of parts and support since Afghan withdrawal?

@ThackhamJosh @FennellJW I doubt we will see RCH built in the UK. Itll be off the german production line with gun fitted in the UK to a APC DM.

This seems to be a very cheap price for 37 guns, and also much less than the £800 million allocated or the medium howitzer programme. Looks like its as much as they could afford to spend this year to keep the programme ticking along before the DIP is publised.

@Osintcollection A400M issues seem to be in the past and being used very hard at the moment. Hopefully buy a few more to make up the numbers.

RAF A400m landing in Akrotiri now. UK Strategic airlift getting the miles in. Shows the value of the fleet. Would like to understand what RAF will do (if anything) to expand fleet with the DIP and replace the C-130 fleet.

@nicholadrummond Bradley replacement being a turretless Bradley fitted with a Turret? I jest, but brilliant commonality with the US Army. Most Tracked platforms on Bradley running gear.

@G4Wallah @JonHawkes275 How do they do BVS-10/BV206? If you throw a track then surely dragged back on road wheels then track replaced? Still take ages to track bash and put a metal track on.

@JonHawkes275 Absolute bitch so swap composite tracks, you’d need big forks to do that in the field. Guessing REME/ES have rejected it on those grounds? Throw track and the crew wouldn’t be able to fix in the field.

🇬🇧 M270 taking shape with installation of UK-specific items. I had missed that the upgrade had quietly dropped the composite tracks in favour of some new Cook steel tracks, disappointing move but I'm sure they have some reasons

@G4Wallah @thinkdefence If they had put EPLS on the SX series SVs it would've been some vehicle cross country especially with the same tyres as SVR.

@thinkdefence @SpannerOperator Although they did acknowledge DROPS MMLC to be limited, hence IMMLC procured largely for RA resupply. Often wondered why we didn’t/don’t do the same with existing (E)PLS ie chunkier balloon tyres for better off-road performance for RA units.

Read an interesting RLC Journal article from the early eighties that suggested a better alternative to DROPS for RA ammunition supply was a combination of low mobility articulated trucks and high mobility forward control County Tractors with trailers

@TBrit90 Well seeing that Spain/Austria are haply with ASCOD and with VACs out the same factory. I would say we could perfectly destroy CV90 aswell. Look how well BOXER trials are going.

@G4Wallah @Gabriel64869839 Agreed, if we loose all Civvy and Military airports, including places like Dishforth and Cottesmore. The main issue will be the lack of A/C left. Prestige strike could remove most of the A/C we have.

@Gabriel64869839 Seems somewhat redundant when we have so many camps with old airfields that just need some basic repairs done no?

In 2023, Chief of the Air Staff talked of plans for exercise in which RAF jets would return to take off from UK roads, too. Agile basing was "big" between 2021 and 2023 under Wigston and Harvey Smyth. Done it at very small scale in Finland, but nothing on UK roads to this day.

Today, two Typhoon aircraft took off from RAF Coningsby, utilising a taxiway. The Station Commander said: “This has always been an option. We have successfully, and safely, achieved our objectives, assuring our processes, increasing our capability, and enhancing our resilience.”

@tinman197474747 Very different to being dismounted moving around and having that experience to cutting around doing 20-30mph and no ability to build heat through movement. Savage in the cold they are.

MoD has signed last month a 5 year contract, with 2 individual 1-year options, for repair and maintenance of Transmissions on VIKING and Cougar (Mastiff). Jan 2031 end is well beyond published OSD for both MASTIFF (2028) and VIKING (2029). It's both a good and a bad signal.

That is a fleet. RAF has only 22. 8 C-17s but they’re getting shagged and probably won’t last too much longer. 8 is as many as Australia and Qatar have.
