@DR43V3R @Genki_JPN I’m specifically talking about the clip. And point-for-point comparing to the DLSS clips. Can’t speak to the game overall, and have not tried to.

@SperanzaEnclave @Genki_JPN I’m pro DLSS 5 and I think it looks for most part amazing, and I want to see more of it. But it’s ridiculous to state that Death Stranding doesn’t have amazing graphics.

Not sure what your counterpoint is… are you implying the skin looks good? Or the hair with zero self shadowing? Even if it was as good or better than the DLSS 5 demos, most studios will not and can not invest like this for every game. So if you can do what’s done in this video without DLSS 5 for 2 games and then use DLSS 5 for the other 995 games that wouldn’t have invested like this, how is that not a win for everyone again?

@milesdeutscher This is the most ridiculous and uneducated take I’ve ever read. Literally every dollar always goes in circles, BY DESIGN. Congratulations… you have just described “an economy”. Some of the circles are just bigger and less predictable circles than others. Thats it.

This isn't the article I thought I'd be posting today. But it's definitely the most important AI piece I've ever written. Several close friends read it before I published, and every single one told me I had no choice but to publish it. Read it, and you'll understand why:

@videotechuk_ @Ubisoft @CapcomUSA_ “Said one developer” out of 17,000 working there across a ton of different unrelated studios and teams… obviously not everyone is informed. You can’t possibly believe that they speak for the entire company 🤣

I think it’s the massive wave of general anti-AI sentiment that has built up the last year, combined with the fact that when you affect characters’ faces, let alone the faces of characters they’re emotionally attached to, people get irrational and just start to ignore facts and react emotionally. Also lots of artists are assuming the worst because they already feel under assault by AI. Stoicism would go a long ways towards helping the unwell.

So let me get this straight @nvidia shows of a demo last year of neural rendering which greatly enhances textures in games then a couple of days ago Nvidia shows off some Demos of DLSS 5 with Developer support for their games and now everyone is freaking out?

@CarcinogenSDA “Said one Ubisoft developer” is all you need to read. You have no idea who they are or what studio they even work at. Newsflash… not everyone at every company is looped in on every project… by design.

Jesus Christ this is cringe… stand your ground. You are supposed to be the experts by seeing this stuff first and having a background in contextualizing it for a non-technical audience. It’s fine to have an opinion if you have done analysis and thoughtfully weigh out the pros and cons. If you think your job is just to mirror what we want to hear, why would the world need you at all? If some people can’t handle you disagreeing then that’s on them. Sometimes it’s valuable long term to be the only one on a side that’s later proven to be correct. Trust your gut, present it thoughtfully, don’t capitulate.

Impossible without a huge lawsuit. Don’t believe it. They would not show a company’s content without their permission and create an expectation that something will end up in the game that won’t. There are many people at these companies, like any company, and the fact that one random anonymous employee didn’t know this was in progress means nothing.

If the shoe fits… I mean sometimes people who have been educated or exposed to things for many years like lighting and photography and rendering and psychology are gonna just know more than the “GRMFDDFFFURRR I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AND DONT LIKE NEW THING BUT IM GONNA STATE EVERYTHING I THINK AS FACT” crowd. Any effort to inform being smeared and roundly mocked makes them shrug and go back to their peaceful life of knowing more. Willful ignorance is a thing.

It's funny how most of the people I see defending DLSS 5 are basically just "you're too stupid to understand it". Kinda reminds me of how we were too stupid to understand NFTs.
Georgian Avasilcutei@nimlot26

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

It doesn’t change geometry. He said it takes place at the geometry level. He may have misspoken or may have meant something else entirely about the point in the chain when things are happening. But the geometry is simply not altered. If you have eyes you can see it for yourself lighting changed your perception of the face shape the same way makeup contouring and lighting do. It is an OPTICAL ILLUSION. Look at this: youtu.be/6sgpeoWpO9w

@wccftech Yes lighting can make things LOOK better, lighting can not change the geometry of a face like we saw with graces face lol. Jensen has already publicly admitted in 4k that DLSS 5 changes geometry with generative AI the more these people push back against reality the worst it is.

If you train a model on all things humans have ever created, it can not only emulate any of those things, but it can combine them in new permutations and variations that people have never thought of or tried before... whether it was due to resources, time, creativity... whatever. The idea that the model couldn't generate equally as varied a result, or even more unique results than we ever have is just wrong. Are you implying that every game that is released today is completely unique looking? 50% of them have solid clay-looking faces and use all the same graphics techniques to render hair, shadows, lighting, etc. Hell, game developer rendering people share the math and techniques for them with one another at conferences!

By definition, the developers DO control the final look because they decide whether to use it in the first place, and they design with it in place. They decide whether the output is what they want. Much of any artistic creation is a flow state, you design as you go. It isn't some perfect vision in your mind that you replicate pixel for pixel later. The artists can do that just the same. Even rasterized graphics is inherently a hack... a complete approximation of reality. The games industry has been created and thrived on those hacks. To sit here and act like what the artists have been working with was "their vision" is comical. It's always been an inherent and massive compromise.

@SperanzaEnclave @PaulTassi The model is pulling the look in a direction devs can't directly control, since Nvidia chose the training set. Masking, color grading and an intensity knob are not sufficient control. Inference isn't simulation. It won't produce consistent results under chaotic circumstances.

@SperanzaEnclave That's not how it works actually but again, if it was it's even worst because that's them taking more time and development cost for games. For ai slop forced in them by investors Ass.
