@NothingLane Plus 1960s 405 line telecine + 405 2" Quad + telerecording technology had its limits. Videotape was still less than 10 years old as a technology.

One thing that The Nightmare Begins really highlights is just how big the step-down in quality was between material originally shot on 35mm > videotape > 16mm film recording. Just how amazing would everything look if all the film inserts up to The Web of Fear had been kept?

Burke popularised space travel and is still in many ways still unsurpassed as an explainer of science. And this is great (I’ve RT’d it before) … but it is two shots not one, it cuts 25 sec before the end, making it easier to achieve

Does anyone know @TfL why the front doors to Bond Street Station at Hanover Square are never open? They’ve been like this since the second week of opening.

@alexellisuk @NathanPSI I've seen quite a few positive comments about moving the headphone connector further forward, closer to where people are sitting. Seems to be well received. I can see some logic to moving it back to align with the bottom row of the keyboard though.

@NathanPSI Nice demo! Do you find yourself hitting that audio cable with your left hand? That and the 8GB seem like very specific choices

Update: it rendered perfectly without any issues. It also ran the premiere project with over 2000 clips from a fairly standard external SSD far better than a Windows 11 pc with 32GB of ram, Intel Core Ultra 9 and super fast flash storage. How on earth is this possible.

@MeTheAngryCat @xdNiBoR Actually some Belgian transmissions were also 819/50, in some cases they switched between 819/50 and 625/50 on the same station based on source, rather than converting!

@MeTheAngryCat @xdNiBoR The rest of Europe was 625/50 from launch pretty much, so just added PAL/SECAM in the same way as NTSC, but without having to tweak our frame rates as the US did (60->59.94)

Say what you want about Europe but our electrical outlets are far superior and that is a fact

@learning_yohei The spelling used in the UK is also usually the spelling used in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and in many cases Canada. I believe it's also formally used in India. US English is used in the USA and by many people who learn English as a second language.

@GwydionMW @simongerman600 The Swedish 'mile' is very much a false-friend for Brits learning the language, as it's 10km. A lot longer than the miles we are used to!

"It is traditionally defined as the area of one chain by one furlong (66 by 660 feet), which is exactly equal to 10 square chains, 1⁄640 of a square mile." (Wiki.) That was the British system. But the metric system was preferred, because other societies had their own. Swedish miles were seven times as long, for instance.

Not coming from an agricultural background, some measurements don’t make intuitive sense to me. A Hectares are easy enough to come to terms with: 10,000 square meters. Easy. An acre?! I still can’t wrap my head around this…
