@daletanhardt @CWh1tty Respectfully, what do you think happened there all the years that it WAS all grass after the pavement ended? The drivers simply slowed down more. This is better because you'll get that without the long cautions for spun cars stuck in the kitty litter.

@CWh1tty It’s not as much about the material. It’s about the obstacle that potentially forces checkups & pileups.. ripple effect of the bad placement (as well as end of carousel.. arguably worse)

@Toby_Christie Well the drivers took advantage of the situation, so they shouldn't be shocked that this is what they get when they can't behave They are professional drivers and they should be able to drive the track without hitting stationary inanimate objects

I feel like we could enforce track limits without placing an obstacle on track that will likely send a car shooting back across the track to ruin the day of drivers who didn’t break track limits.

Now it can be used as the safety feature it is actually meant to be and not as an extreme extension of the racing surface.

@atoreiyu200001 It's not "normal" per se, but it's to be expected, at least in democrat run cities in the U.S. (so virtually every major city and college town unfortunately). In the suburbs and rural Republican leaning communities this would not be acceptable.

I want to ask people around the world who are not Japanese. At the restroom near Fushimi Inari Shrine last night — a sacred place — someone left diapers covered in feces and piles of trash in the hand-washing area and just walked away. Is this considered normal behavior where you come from? To whoever did this — what the hell is wrong with you? This isn’t just bad manners — it’s disgusting, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable. This is a place of worship, not a garbage dump. If anyone thinks this kind of behavior is okay, that’s the problem. Clean up your own filth and learn some basic respect. Don’t you all agree?

@LeftTurnLogic @RobCaron @anthonyalfredo @WGI Not accurate. Tracks do not have to add runoff unless they are seeking Grade 1 certification which Watkins Glen is not. They added the first part in 2005 for IndyCar, where the pavement stopped adjacent to the exit of pit road. The rest was added after the big wreck in 2011.

@RobCaron @anthonyalfredo @WGI WGI was trying to get an FIA certification. Part of that was removing the gravel trap. It's not really necessary. This isn't a bad fix, but there are other things you can do.
