Saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Norris. He was a true legend who never wavered in his commitment to faith, freedom, and the values that make this country strong. Chuck understood something important and stated it often: it’s people—not government—who are granted power by God to make a difference in the world. He lived that truth, boldly defending our constitutional freedoms and never shying away from what he believed. His legacy as an actor, martial artist, and devoted American will continue to inspire generations.

Texas has lost a legend. All of Texas mourns the passing of Chuck Norris. He was not only a martial arts champion, action icon, and the one and only Walker, Texas Ranger. But he electrified generations of conservatives. Giving them a passion and voice to fight for the principles that make America the greatest nation on earth. He embodied the toughness, grit, and patriotism that makes Texas supreme. Rest in peace, Chuck.

It is with great personal sadness that I’ve learned my friend and American Icon Chuck Norris has passed away. Chuck, his wife Gena, and I go back many years. Chuck was one of the first people to endorse me when I ran for the Texas Senate in 2007. Chuck was a committed Christian and a rock-solid conservative. In 2017, he and Gena had lunch with me at the Capitol on my birthday. They sang happy birthday to me. I asked Chuck to cut the cake. He did it only as Chuck Norris would. Our joke was that Chuck could cut the birthday cake with a karate chop and not get icing on his hand. He was a true American success story. Injured in South Korea in the military, he took up martial arts to help heal. Later, he trained movie stars in martial arts. Steve McQueen told him he should be an action star. The rest is history. He became one of the most famous and most recognized people in the world. His martial art movies, and Walker, Texas Ranger, were popular worldwide. He was one of the finest people I’ve ever met. He was the best of the best in every way. He started the “Kickstart Kids” program in Texas schools that taught kids the discipline of martial arts. He loved those kids. I asked him once what his favorite Chuck Norris joke was (he loved those), and he said, “When the boogie man goes to sleep at night, he’s afraid Chuck Norris is in the closet.” I don’t cry often, but today is an exception. I will miss him, everyone who knew him will miss him, and so will his millions of fans. I love you, Chuck! Please keep Gena and the Norris Family in your prayers.

The Austin City Council is spending more than $1.4 million to redesign their website. They just spent over $1 million to change their logo. Local government spending is completely out of control. Gov. Abbott plans to rein them in next session.

Property taxes are out of control. For years, the state has had to buy down property taxes to keep bills from exploding. But that’s just a band-aid on the real problem — runaway local government spending and skyrocketing appraisals. I joined Governor @GregAbbott_TX to lay out a plan to fix it: ✔️ Put real limits on local government spending ✔️ Require 2/3 voter approval before taxes can be raised ✔️ Give voters the power to roll back excessive taxes ✔️ Cap appraisal growth and create predictability ✔️ Eliminate school property taxes for homeowners Texans should never be taxed out of their homes.
