@pensandpoison Just be clear, the extreme Right is Anarchy, not Fascism. Fascism is a form of collectivism that has been incorrectly branded Rightwing, but even simply the genesis of the name puts the lie to that. Not that Anarchy should be pursued.

Political extremism on both sides is bad, but the reason I tend to zero in on the far left is because it’s hijacked everything I’ve ever loved—literature, art, music—and has convinced almost the entire world that the value of art lies in its relation to social justice.

@staggeredfawn @MrOvis_ @JarvaroGort2 Yes. I get called a fascist, nazi, sexist, fascist for even question a single hair’s worth of progressive ideology even though i’m a classical marxist and a leninist. I don’t think i’ll ever be right wing though. The class first leftists that become right wing are weak.

@MrOvis_ @JarvaroGort2 The only people they hate more than RWers are "class first" leftists. They see them as temporarily embarrassed RWers which funnily enough often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

They just use the class war shit as an excuse to try and get people to shut the fuck up about culture war shit. Good example is immigration. It's really really easy to make an argument that infinite immigration is a tool from capitalist elites to get cheap laborers that they can more easily exploit. Leftists don't care, because they view open borders as a form of reparations for the crimes of white people.

@JarvaroGort2 Yes, what the left doesn’t understand is they are the aggressors in the culture war. They are the ones introducing all these new concepts and actively changing the cultural norms of society. The right is merely reacting to these shifts they see from the left. I’m a marxist btw

The US would have won quite easily if Trump hadn't gotten queasy. It would have required a lot more brutality and it seems that Trump just isn't cut out for that, very different from Putin in that respect who is indifferent to killing. Russia could have used a more Trumpian leader in that respect who would have wrapped things up in May 2022 and conversely the US here would have done better with a leader more indifferent to blood.

To clarify, the immediate decision to pack it in regarding Iran was clearly correct. But commencing this without any apparently plan to secured the strait was bafflingly incompetent. Nearly all informed amateurs knew roughly what would happen, and assumed there was some plan.

Why is every DSA candidate so cagey about Ukraine. There has never been a more clear cut country to support than Ukraine. If you valued democracy at all you should be unequivocal in your support of them.

@lilbabygandhi They think that Russia is communist stiill and Russia is our historic enemy so therefore it’s good. Also they don’t have time to waste supporting anyone other than Islamic terrorist groups.

in the cowboy days, many issues arose from the westerners not understanding how non-centralized the native americans were. They'd make a pact with a tribe, and feel betrayed when a different tribe raided them. From the outside, all the strange native folk seemed like one big undifferentiated mass. If you're coming from a homogeneous normietown into a wild west of unusual communities, it might be hard to comprehend the diversity within them. After all, from the outside, they seem like one mass of vaguely weird people, and if one group of them is terrible you might be tempted to be like 'ah yes, the weird people are all secretly bad even though some of them seem good'

After the DSA wins New York, Seattle, DC, and (potentially) the LA mayoral races, I think the center left needs to acknowledge that its infrastructure in major American cities is broken, that we are being flatly out-organized, and settling for uninspiring candidates.

@TitherM @ProgressiveVic The same ideology that dominates Russia dominates the US, Russian media sounds like fox news. Ukraine is a sacrificial lamb and the left not supporting Ukraine is stupid as hell because both the US and Russia are taking part in dominating Ukraine & oppressing people

Lately, we have had to grapple with several otherwise excellent candidates’ belief that defending Ukraine harms the average American financially or, worse, that they are uncomfortable with the concept of military aid. It is the responsibility of those with power to defend the interests of those without it, especially when we are the reason they are powerless. If they aren’t willing to stand up to foreign oligarchs/imperialists, how can we believe they will be ready to stand up to America’s corporate, imperial interests when they bully & threaten them every day in Congress? For that reason, until @claireforny commits to supporting both humanitarian & military aid to Ukraine, we cannot endorse or support her no matter how much we may otherwise align. Solidarity with both Palestinians and Ukrainians must remain a red line.
Track Ukraine@TrackUkraine

Congressional primary candidate for NY-7th @claireforny avoided the topic of Ukraine while campaigning. Given the first chance to speak about the deadliest invasion on earth she complained about aid cost and called for more stalled talks. Being truly anti-war means taking action.

@AmDwergi @GreeneMan6 You fight tooth and nail to defend international capital yet you want to LARP as some sort of anti-capitalist?You cry about mass migration but are foot soldiers of the very people causing it. As I said, you are shock troops of capital. The machine uses you when it’s threatened.

@TitherM @GreeneMan6 You people are literally for dissolving borders and cultures to make capital more liquid. If you're thinking Dave is any kind of liberal, youre just wrong. Everywhere the left its immigration, more GAE culture, to the degree there is a non-prog left, its less of a thing than DR

@nogbad_thebad @_CLancellotti The thinkers and leaders of the renaissance, enlightenment, and communist revolutions were all highly educated people. Are you seriously arguing that the uneducated are the ones having the most influence over the zeitgeist and making world-historic transformation of politics???

@TitherM @_CLancellotti It should be easy for you to name such a point as an example in that case. Please do so. Actually, can you say what "pushing the boundaries of culture and politics" means first? I regard culture as being like the universe: finite but unbounded.

I remain convinced that @TheStalwart is right: shift toward algorithmic media is lowering the salience of national identity. This isn't irreversible. Technology will keep shaking the kaleidoscope. But it's a trend that helps explain otherwise puzzling aspects of youth politics.
