50% of UK adults smoked 35 years ago The government wanted to reduce it, so they dramatically increased taxes & regulations It worked. Now only 10.6% of UK adults smoke Today, they’re increasing taxes & regulations, making it WAY harder to run a business If that approach wiped out smoking, are they trying to do the same to entrepreneurship & wealth in the UK? They say they support small business, but it feels like they treat it the same way they treated smoking. But smoking was a cancer & small business is the lifeblood of the U.K. Make it make sense

@LoftusSteve @JuliaHB1 Again like minimum/living wage increases, this get put on business’ with the govt only reaping the rewards of tax, until those jobs are non viable so they are gone, = no tax

Every single employee is paid exactly what they agreed to be paid, which is what they think their job is worth. This whole argument is for people too unskilled to ever earn decent money so they want to either drag everyone else down, or see themselves overpaid.
Nicole Pizza@justaphag6

rich people are losing their MIND at the concept of the 10:1 pay ratio 🤣🤣🤣 absolutely terrified that they’re gunna have to pay their employees well if they want to be paid well 🤣

Again, who is the running the Government's political and communication's strategy. What genius decided to send out Rachel Reeves to boast about how much we're spending on defending Ukraine at precisely the moment she's rejecting calls to spend more on defending the UK.
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

Our support for Ukraine is ironclad. We’ve sent £752 million for military equipment to counter Putin’s illegal war. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

A 10:1 pay ratio is too low, IMO. With the minimum wage set at ~£13, that gives an effective maximum hourly rate cap of ~£130 — much, much less than many skilled professionals charge for their services, and much, much less than you need to attract specialist, experienced talent in many, many sectors. BUT when we had lower pay ratios (under postwar social democracy) it wasn’t because of top-down legislation, but because of inbuilt structural mechanisms for bolstering workers’ bargaining power (i.e. powerful trade unions). Instead of pay ratios (which would invite all manner of insane avoidance/elite self-employment/boosted share option schemes), let’s have: 👉Nationwide sectoral collective bargaining 👉Worker representation on company boards Let’s boost productivity by incentivising investment in plant, machinery & automative technology over cheap, unorganised, casual labour.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Green leader Zack Polanski will call for policies to end the "affordability crisis" tomorrow - The introduction of a 10:1 pay ratio, whereby the highest-paid employee earns no more than ten times the lowest-paid - Free school meals for all primary and secondary pupils - Universal energy bill support for households and stronger rent controls - A customs union with the EU to cut business costs

Dear Brexiteers, this is what YOU voted for. 👀 You campaigned to leave. You won. You triggered Article 50. You got your blue passport. Now you’re a third country national on EU soil and you have to queue like one. Brexit means Brexit, right? FAFO 🇬🇧💀

@justaphag6 Wage pressures = more automation Maybe the next wage increase will work, if not that one, then def the one after that 🙃 Wage increases solve nothing.

Alright let's run with that. There are 525,600 minutes in a year and the 'Holocaust' occurred over c. 3 years (early 1942 to early 1945) which gives you 1,576,800 minutes. That means that the Germans were allegedly murdering a jew every c. 15 seconds. Sound plausible? No.
Arsen Ostrovsky@Ostrov_A

Just pause to think for a moment ... 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. If a minute’s silence was observed for each victim, the silence would last more than 11 years!
