Trent Alexander-Arnold plays right-back for Real Madrid. Started home and away against Manchester City. He won the Premier League and Champions League at right-back with Liverpool. He’s used to dealing with pressure. He’s taken a decisive tournament penalty. He’s played in the World Cup before. He has occasional defensive deficiencies but he brings a long-range passing skill that few possess. Are England that blessed at right-back that they don’t need Alexander-Arnold? That he isn’t amongst the best 30 outfield players available to Thomas Tuchel?

@McFlybowy Bellingham is a generational talent. He's not been on top form lately and had some injuries but did well in the Euros and has to play. The likes of Rogers and Foden don't even deserve comparison. I would also play Palmer out wide

This position will decide whether England go all the way or not. The midfield duo is locked down Rice and Elliot Anderson and they will completely dominate, but what England now need is a creative #10 to balance it. I’ll break each option down: Bellingham: He’s the most complete attacking midfielder this season….goals, assists, involvement, and progressive play are all top tier. He’s a box-to-box player, but he doesn’t have the positioning of a classic #10 and isn’t a pure pocket creator. Cole Palmer: Creates danger through shots and goals more than passes. He’s basically an attacking midfielder with striker instincts, but he’s more a scorer than a “key passer” and may struggle to unlock highly organized defenses. He also contributes little defensively, with limited pressing and tracking. Foden: Operates between the lines, can drift wide or cut inside, and thrives in fast, fluid attacks. He’s still one of the most creative attacking midfielders, but he tends to drift wide or deep, losing influence centrally, as we saw at the Euros. His defensive contribution is /also minimal. Eze: Very effective when hot, but he’s not a classic #10. He prefers to operate in pockets from the left rather than centrally. He can be brilliant one game and quiet the next, and his tracking back and pressing are very limited. Rogers: Energetic, with goals and assists, but still developing. He lacks top-level consistency and is not yet a reliable creative fulcrum for a team that needs a structured #10. England’s #10 options this season all share the same problem: they score more than they create. Palmer, Bellingham, Rogers, and Eze all threaten goals but don’t unlock defenses. England currently has no true #10 who combines elite scoring, consistent creativity, and central positional intelligence. The only player who could have played as the main #10 is Maddison, and unfortunately, he won’t be available.

@DougieCritchley Issue with a player like him is he is getting on a bit. At 27 he's in his prime and needs to make his mark more immediately than say a 22 yo Wirtz. Eze has had moments, and will be very happy if he wins trophies but being a fringe player has to be disappointing.

Eberechi Eze's move to Arsenal has been a classic case of an attacking player swapping an environment where he has a lot of creative freedom, to a structure where he isn't the biggest fish. Whilst I don't think he's been one of Arsenal's best players, he's certainly provided A LOT of moments for a debut season at a new club. 23 League and Champions League starts... in which he's contributed an assist vs Man City, 5 goals vs Tottenham and scored a crucial long range goal vs Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last 16. It's not been perfect, but I think if you'd told him that's what he'd achieve in his first season, having signed in the final week of the window... He'd 100% have taken that.

@fifferh That's why the Henry/Hickey injury isn't too bad if we just keep KLP there. Hes solid enough defensively, better than both offensively. We need to just not fuck around with the position. No Ajer LB BS to accommodate Collins. If Schade cba, play Donovan

1) He can knee slide as far as he can throw 2) KLP isn't just better at fullback than on the wing, he's straight up a very good full back.

My 2 cents as some is different from lots I'm seeing: 1) taking off Schade killed us. He wasn't great but we lost all pace output. Yarmo for Hendo was the sub 2) Jensen was good, then fell off a cliff (again we had no legs in CM with Hendo) 3) Dango should have got 90 mins

@freelander97 Oh yeah I agree I'd rather see Donovan, but I think thats a silly twitter narrative take on Nelson. No evidence to back it up, if anything he is too desperate to play when injured making it worse. Apart from one cup game Nelson has been bad but hes not played enough to judge.
