As a small sports media company, we rely on content monetization for a good chunk of our income. Whoever runs the @SECcountry page has been frequently stealing our content for nearly 2 months now, and recycling it as their own. The pages have a collective following of over 2 million followers (far more than we do), and are using our content to generate more views on their own page, which is hurting our opportunity to monetize. We're not sure who runs these pages anymore, as SEC Country used to be owned by Cox Media, but know that they do not operate these pages anymore, as they shut down the site in 2018. We work really hard to produce high quality, unique content, and really wish the person(s) stealing it would stop.

My uncle, Captain Wylder Modine, was a real B-17 "Flying Fortress" pilot during WWII. After returning from a bombing mission, he got hit by anti-aircraft fire and almost had his right arm taken off. He had his crew bail, but his co-pilot was shot up really bad and couldn’t parachute, so my uncle, with one arm, landed the heavily damaged B-17 in a field behind enemy lines. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. I talked with him before making MEMPHIS BELLE in 1989. He gave me his dress uniform to wear in the film and said, “when you put that on, don't disrespect it.”

@EODHappyCaptain In 1985 at Recruit Training Center San Diego that first pay statement was more of a receipt of what we paid for that first uniform issue than a pay check.

Most people are surprised to find out that all the things Soldiers get at basic training are paid for…by the Soldier. That first haircut? Soldier. That pair of running shoes you needed for PT? Soldier. Those terrible brown towels they give you? Soldier. When you first arrive they give you a card with money on it. It’s a cash advance. I have never questioned my choice to join the Army like I did after seeing a two week paycheck for 28 dollars after getting smoked for 14 days. Still turned out to be the best choice I’ve made

It’s been a rough morning. Woke up this morning and walked out to my truck to find my goodest boy laying in his favorite spot, but he was gone. Diesel has kept me and my family safe from every garbage truck, UPS, FedEx, and pizza delivery driver for the last 12 years. Hardest grave I’ve ever dug. I’m not ok.

THIS WOMAN SAVED MY LIFE 10 YEARS AGO TODAY 🧵 It was a beautiful autumn day. I was about 20 miles into a 60-mile bike ride. Approaching an intersection, a car ran a red light and hit me head-on. I have no recollection of the accident. But witnesses said I ricocheted off of the windshield, shattering it and collapsing the roof, and flew over a light pole “like a rag doll.” My back was broken in 19 places along with all of my ribs on the right side, multiple skull fractures, a broken neck, traumatic brain injury, and on and on. 41 bones and 51 fractures in all. Fives days into my stint in ICU, my oxygenation levels and pulse began crashing. I was, I was told much later, on the verge of cardiac arrest from massive internal hemorrhaging and a hemothorax. In other words, my right lung was full of blood and the mounting pressure in my chest cavity was squeezing my heart and other vital organs. This young woman, a resident, decided there wasn’t time to get me to surgery nor even to anesthetize me. Right there on the spot she cut straight through my chest and inserted a tube to relieve pressure on my heart. Though on oxycodone, morphine, and Neurontin all at the same time, I was conscious and in extraordinary agony. I stared into her eyes as the blade cut through the chest wall and into my lung. She would tell me later that I cracked jokes. It was my way of self-distraction. Already suffering, this additional pain was beyond description. I just looked into her eyes as if willing her to be gentle. The moment the blade pierced my lung, 3 liters of blood shot all over her and the room, so great was the pressure. Down 50% of my total blood volume, I was on the verge of hypovolemic shock and was, she said, turning the color of ash and wilting with a rapidly crashing pulse. She then began blood transfusions. Three of them. But I never lost consciousness. She had not anticipated the extreme blood loss. “I was sure I had killed you. I had given dozens of chest tubes, but never to someone fully conscious.” But she didn’t kill me. She saved my life. My recovery would take months. In a sense, I’ve never recovered. But I am grateful for her decisive action and good care of me along with that of my excellent nurses. As an aside, being conscious through such a procedure is an experience you won’t soon forget. It wasn’t the last time. I experienced the same when screws were removed from my leg and injections were made into my spinal cord. But this one was, by far, the worst of all. Later I was chatting with a friend while my knee was being stitched. I thought nothing of it. He nearly passed out. By this time, my pain threshold had shifted like a bad Overton Window! Praise be to God.
