@larry_levitt It's the provider cash grab through winning 80% of massive amounts of arbitration cases that is creating a problem. First it was surprise billing and then the response. How about honest billing based on cost of goods?

The ban on surprise medical bills seemed like it could be a twofer -- protect patients from surprise bills and reduce the prices paid to providers engaging in surprise billing. Patients are being protected, but the price savings haven't been realized.
Peter Sullivan@PeterSullivan4

CBO says that its original estimate that surprise billing law would lower premiums/prices might be wrong Providers are being paid amounts "much higher than expected" thru arbitration It calls for more research cbo.gov/publication/62…

@SethBorman UH, I was actually pointing to the opposite when I used the term "management heavy" but do go on if you have something worthwhile to add.

@WAHealthEnroll Adding an additional layer of management on top of hospitals isn't going to be the success story you hope for.

If we want to drive down cost then how hospitals conduct business will have to be evaluated and possibly changed. Are they over using travel nurses? Are they upcharging private insurance? Are they management heavy? Are patients getting their money's worth?
Larry Levitt@larry_levitt

New federal data shows hospital revenues increased 7.6% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to 2025. Hospitals continue to be the biggest driver of health care cost growth.

@PattyMurray Those Epstein taxes on gas are a killer for consumers and cranks up the inflation. Feel bad for the next one as his bad deals will linger like they did before.

@TopherSpiro Debt Shackles. They used it on Student Loans and now they are going to use it on Healthcare.

@Acyn AOC is falling for the trap of attacking customer service of agents and brokers, who are not an Insurance Company employee. The real fun begins how Insurance companies will turn off channels to restrict access to plans.

AOC on Medicare Advantage: In theory, agents and brokers work with everyday people enrolling in a plan and are there to help them pick the best plan for their health, right? That’s how it’s supposed to be set up. What gets complicated is that agents and brokers are paid by health insurers for enrolling individuals in specific plans. And so you’re supposed to have agents and brokers talking to your mom or your grandparent, saying, “We’d like to enroll you. We think this plan is what’s best for you.” But what that person doesn’t know is that UnitedHealthcare is saying, “We’ll give you a vacation if you enroll people in our plan,” or, “We’ll give you a couple of extra hundred dollars if you enroll someone in a Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, a United plan, or any number of other plans.” And in your testimony, you stated that agents and brokers received $10 billion in this kind of compensation in 2022 alone, right? That’s $10 billion in taxpayer money. A lot of it is being funneled through these corporations. And so that is money that is not going to care. It’s going to perks, trips to Boca, and financial incentives for brokers to enroll people out of traditional Medicare and into for-profit Medicare Advantage plans.

Inflation has overtaken wages for the first time in 3 years. That means Americans’ incomes are shrinking in real terms, largely because of the Iran war. My @Morning_Joe Chart.

Thank you everyone that turned out for a great Pride Night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The AppleSox crushed the Drifters 11 to 1. Talking with the staff, we packed the stands with cheering fans. Weather was great and a perfect night to have made history. applesox.com/news/2026/6/10…

Yup, Trump loves Inflation. I personally hate it as it means more people are going to struggle harder to put food on the table or get to their jobs this summer. Don't expect things to get better under the GOP. youtube.com/shorts/l7r1xAr…

Has anyone ever met a patient that price shopped for Healthcare , after they met their Max Out of Pocket ? Or after their deductible with a low copay or coinsurance ? It’s hard enough for patients to price shop for care. After they hit their annual number, why would they ? On the flip side, why wouldn’t providers raise all prices for people who have hit their number ? Or at least raise all prices late in the year ?

@mcuban I have been working with Health Insurance for a few years. I have never met anyone willingly shopping for Health Insurance after they meet their out of pocket max. In fact I have seen more than one pay full retail price just because everything else was covered.
