@piezoelectron With Nat Student Assoc he knew. With Asia Foundation he knew he was reporting to some intel agency. He was young, comfortable w anti-communist ops. I asked direct questions. After I sent him Asia F docs showing him reporting on student politics he disengaged. He left silence.

The late #JamesScott was a complicated man (like Shaft), with youthful embrace of US intelligence agencies that I & others document. I corresponded with him on this, but I can't say I fully understand. I wouldn't reduce him to these youthful engagements, but find puzzling. #CIA
