The only reasonable response to this is, "What is wrong with these people?"
Kelley B. Vlahos@KelleyBVlahos

This guy was on @cspanwj this morning saying the US has been under 'imminent threat' by Iran for 47yrs and compared it to a schoolyard bully who has been punching your kid in the nose in the schoolyard everyday. That's a new one.

NYT just published an op-ed by a fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, which was founded to "enhance Israel's image in North America." The author argues for more war, saying "at least another two weeks of attacks will be necessary to ensure the regime cannot pose a serious military threat for several years — if it survives at all."

Americans largely oppose the war on Iran. But the war is very popular among Washington think tanks, who are flush with more than $44 million from weapons companies since 2019 and act as the war’s loudest cheerleaders across major media networks 🧵

It's weird how people get nostalgic for the slop of their youth. Blockbuster's business model was built around studio deals that required it to curate its new release wall like most modern streaming sites manage their front pages.
Rob (Ro2R)@Ruleof2Review

Ex-Blockbuster employee here. And I mean it with 100% sincerity that the world would be a better place if we shut down all streaming services, re-opened Blockbusters and video stores worldwide, and shoved people back out into the world to find and enjoy their entertainment.

I'm genuinely surprised by this. I've long thought Israel was, even from the point of view of empire, a strategic liability to the USA but never thought figures like Kristol and Kagan would come around to that.
Max Blumenthal@MaxBlumenthal

The Iran war is so bad that PNAC co-founder Robert Kagan now describes Israel as a strategic liability leading the US into a quagmire “It’s kind of like saying South Vietnam was a great ally in the fight against North Vietnam.” Bill Kristol nods along

You tolerate other staff member's off topic moments, so give me this one. I'm not sad my ex-husband is dead. His emotional discontent lead to alcoholism, nervous breakdowns and fits of rage. Brian was a profoundly unhappy person. 1/x

This is intensely sad news. Brian was an excellent writer on both politics and culture. His Radicals for Capitalism is a superb history of libertarianism, his Dirty Pictures an equally strong survey of underground comics. He had great curiosity and an ability to detect hidden patterns. Two years ago, I was hoping to meet him at a memorial for our mutual friend Joe Matt, but Brian's health kept him from attending.
reason@reason

We are sad to report that Senior Editor Brian Doherty has died. Brian wrote six books, including "Radicals for Capitalism," a seminal history of the modern American libertarian movement. He had an inspiring commitment to covering the ways free people choose to live their lives, and he will be missed. A full obituary will appear soon at reason.com.

I'd add Doherty was worthwhile even if you weren't a libertarian or small govt conservative, ie: War on Drugs, surveillance state, etc. amongst other things. There were, of course, major areas I had irreconcilably different views too, but that's beside the point.
Brandan P. Buck@brandan_buck

We lost a real one. Doherty's work proved absolutely essential in my own research. Any libertarian or scholar interested in the movement owes him an immense debt of gratitude. RIP.
