We were all born private. Then our parents signed us up for Gmail, and Big Tech spent the next decade building a profile on us before we were old enough to understand what that meant. It doesn't have to start that way for the next generation. #BornPrivate

It takes surprisingly little data to create a deepfake. Sometimes just a few photos or a short video. Your online footprint matters more than you think. Here’s how to limit what AI can use to clone your identity 👇

A free press is the cornerstone of a democracy. We believe the best way to protect press freedom is to give journalists tools that make them harder to target & easier to trust. To all those shining a light on necessary truths, we salute you 🫡 Happy World Press Freedom Day.

@Frog47583687 Omitting the line which comes before it: "And if as a society we conclude that a narrowly drawn age-verification system is both necessary and inevitable, it must be done right." As well as a lot of other highly-relevant parts of the piece, really distorts the position.

@ProtonPrivacy Yes, I had read it: “Checks must be conducted entirely client-side, on the user’s device. They should rely on facial scans, not uploaded IDs, that are instantly discarded once processed.” You are advocating for a process which is DESIGNED to be abused, on insecure endpoints.

@ProtonPrivacy Your posts are an apology of “age verification” which everybody knows kills anonymity anyway. By pretending to accept the lesser evil you are actually advocating for it. You are one of the public's enemies.

@interminded @ConlustroR There is very little in the first tweet which is concerning. It just says a thing which has happened.

@ProtonPrivacy @ConlustroR I didn’t cite anything. I explained to you what people read, not what you wrote. Look at the numbers. After 1 hour, your first post in the thread gets 12k views. The second one 2.2k. And you confuse creating legislation with marketing it.

"Technology companies should never become gatekeepers for every adult on the internet, but they must still do their part. They must direct their design firepower toward improving parental-control features at both the app and device levels. These should be obvious and easy to use, not an afterthought scattered across hidden menus. This puts the power and authority to protect children firmly where it belongs: with parents." proton.me/blog/keep-age-…

@ProtonPrivacy And it's gonna be "solved" through identify verification... Great Maybe we should start blaming the parents of these kinds instead of Facebook?

The EU is not using our X posts to come up with legislation, and they've done that by themselves. The reporting mechanism makes it hard to remove minors, that are not allowed there via terms, from the platform. You should not write for an audience that won't read. Further to this, the part you've cited isn't in the first tweet.

I am fully aware as to your position and I fully support it. But assuming the EU commission will not use any 100k+ followers account that states anything they can use to their advantage is presumptuous and does not align with what is currently going on in Brussels. And next to that, >360k followers just read ‘Meta endangers kids!’ From you, and (intended or not), this does influence people’s minds. People don’t read complete stories and consider all provided facts. They take 5 second bites of a story and a headline. That’s reality, fair or not.

@ProtonPrivacy @ConlustroR Yeah, that’s true. But, @ProtonPrivacy; the net effect of it, intended or not, is that you give the EU commission extra fuel to push for their highly unsafe and surveillance hungry ‘age verification app’.

@ProtonPrivacy What’s missing from these conversations is parental responsibility. Kids will try to circumvent the rules and boundaries, but perhaps we also shouldn’t give them unsupervised access to the internet? Much like we don’t leave 10 year olds in the middle of London by themselves.

@ProtonPrivacy You just fallen for the EU games to introduce digital ID. All ISPs in public places will not have porn etc. All ISPs at home do but most home 🏡 can restrict their routers. Let the home 🏠 determine not government

Your Gmail isn't free. You’re worth between $30 and $180,000. It just depends how valuable advertisers think you are. Based on our analysis featured in @Forbes 🔗👇
