I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign. Focus on building the party you actually support. Political parties aren’t perfect, but they’re built by millions of people who knock doors, make calls, organize meetings, and fight for the values they believe in. If you don’t believe in the party, then don’t ask its members to carry you across the finish line.

Today is primary day in NYC, and Mayor Mamdani and the DSA aren't trying to beat Republicans — they're purging experienced Democrats who won't bend the knee to their hard-left, anti-Israel, class-warfare wing of the party. Trisha and I lived in NYC for 27 years. Friends and colleagues there still quietly tell us they're uneasy with how far left the party has drifted. You say you want it back in the middle. Today you can prove it. Three House seats are on the line. If the Mamdani-backed candidates — Claire Valdez, Brad Lander, Darializa Avila Chevalier — sweep, it won't just push the party further left. It will hand the Democratic Socialists a hostile takeover of the New York Democratic Party. Vote like the future of your party depends on it. Because it does.

I have hesitated for the last few months to post something like this because it feels wildly self-important, but it’s getting to the point where I have no choice. I owe many people — some of whom have been very kind to me over the years — return texts, DMs, phone calls, emails, etc. This is partly because my cell phone and email are public, and my DMs are open on every platform. That is something I have always loved and appreciated. It has helped me enormously, and it has allowed me to help others. Keeping on top of this has always been a challenge — but since January, the messages have piled up. It has now gotten to the point where the only way to communicate this message — and have it reach as many people as possible — is through social media. The protests in January, the subsequent massacre of Iranians by the regime, the incredibly foolish war, and the constant back and forth — often within the same day — between Trump and the regime have changed something in me, so abruptly and so profoundly, that I still don’t have the words to describe it. This is not meant to compare myself to what the people in Iran are experiencing at all. But 95% of my family is in Iran. I also have many friends in Iran. And obviously, I am Iranian. So the impact of the last six months is not abstract or distant for me — it is woven into nearly every part of my day. This is the reason, as some of you have noticed, that I am posting much less than before. Most days my mind is somewhere else entirely. I know other Iranians who feel this way and are essentially white-knuckling it through the day, but they may not have shared this with you for a number of reasons. Many of them don’t have the platform or the privilege to say any of this out loud, so you may have no idea they’re carrying it. And many don’t have the luxury I do of simply being slow to respond. But I will get back to normal. For example, the other day I started replying to texts sent in February. I just ask that if you have reached out to me, you give me a little more grace. And this is not to suggest that you should stop reaching out to me — please don’t. I just need a little understanding when it comes to response time. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and love.
