When is Shueisha going to fix the Dragon Ball manga sales numbers?⁉️ It's absurd that they still use the "260 million" figure from 2002, Dragon Ball passed 350M long ago👇 1️⃣ In 1995, Shonen Jump reported 230M worldwide and 140M in Japan only. In 2002, it hit 260M. The 260M worldwide sales figure comes directly from an official press release issued in 2002 by Shueisha, the publisher of Weekly Shonen Jump. 2️⃣ The world kept buying: In the 2009 Tokyo Anime Fair, the updated official audited data on the big screen already stated: "Over 350M copies worldwide". Even 2013 promotional sites for Battle of Gods reiterated this 350M+ milestone. 3️⃣ What about the uncounted and unlicensed markets? Shueisha's data completely erases historical reality. In China alone, it is estimated that over 100M unofficial copies were sold in 2005. South Korea adds another 30M in unlicensed copies. 4️⃣ When you combine the 350M official baseline with the 130M from the Asian market that Shueisha's accounting sheets ignore (which is normal since even though they are confirmed they are illegal) Dragon Ball is easily pushing past 480M copies. 5⃣ The problem comes from the fact that in 2014, Dragon Ball manga sales were reported to be 230M, and here's the strange part: that's the same figure Shueisha gave in 1995. Then, in 2021, on Goku Day, they said it was 260M, again exactly the same figure announced in 2002. One strange fact is that the years between them are the same: between 1995 and 2002 there are 7 years, the same as between 2014 and 2021. 6⃣ We're talking about 480M manga sales in 2013, based only on confirmed figures: 130M unofficial sales from China and Korea + 350M official sales of Dragon Ball since (2009-2013). 13 years have passed since then, so it's not crazy to say that Dragon Ball could have 500M manga sales, including those unofficial but confirmed 130M from China and Korea. Keeping a 24 year old stat for Akira Toriyama's work due to corporate laziness is unacceptable‼️ Give the King of Shonen the credit it deserves👑🐉
