not only does cheap gas drive the economy for logistical reasons, but a decent amount of America's financial stability has been invested in suburban real estate since the 50s, and that real estate is entirely dependant on the idea that gas would remain cheap enough to make driving to these places economical forever
Our suburbs are not only wasteful, they force us to go to war over oil because they are truly dependant completely on it.
Electric vehicles will help, but thats only solving part of the problem

Because a decent chunk of Real Estate in this country relies on cheap gas.
Its only accessible via car, and because of its low density its built far away from real job centers. This means that the value of these properties would tank if the price of gas/energy rises to the point where commuting from these places costs more than the saved value of moving out here to own these homes

Idk why gas prices are so culturally salient in america. You could drive an hour a day and it probably comes to less than $3k/year. Is it because they put the price on billboards along the road?

There are some people in this race that are pretending to “stomach” their burger and fries now but we know they’re counting the days until they can switch back to something Liberal and fancy. Sorry guys, we’re serving hamburgers here. This party needs to be protected from a Liberal takeover. If you don’t have the stomach for our values, well then don’t pretend to be Conservative.

@SteveSaretsky Those potential efficiencies have the complementary issue of either unlocking new uses or just altering dynamics altogether by dropping demand. So it's really hard to know what's the future holds and most predictions don't have a ton of runway, whatever their angle.

@SteveSaretsky Lot of people expected oil to follow the same trend as coal, but the problem is the energy diversification is also feeding into growth in global and byproducts demand rather than strictly replacing oil. Either this trend holds or new efficiencies may be found over time.

@itskyleconner Subaru underspecs theirs - they drain after 2 weeks of standby and plenty of brands have theirs fail at 3, which is when the non-powertrain warranties tend to expire.
4 is what I used to expect out of a non-AGM and AGMs are kinda all over the place. We've had one last over 10.

12V battery alerts popped up on my R1T.
It is 4 years old so it seems to be on the low end of 12V typical life but these trucks do have a lot of accessory loads etc.
It actually popped up right after I picked my truck up from service for a separate issue that prevented the truck from DC Fast Charging.
Anyway, I followed the prompts in the app and called Rivian Service, 12 minutes later I’m scheduled for an appointment. Would have preferred for this to have been done in the app rather than wait for someone to manually type in concerns that are exclusively limited to the warning the truck gave me.
The appointment is currently scheduled in 3 weeks time. I’m driving by the service center later today ahead of some upcoming travel so I asked if it’s possible to exchange the 12V this afternoon rather than risking the truck dying over the next 3 weeks. We’ll see!
I know Rivian has a service scheduling function in the app, just wish they’d leverage that a bit more to catch up to the Tesla experience ⚡️
