@19Hope60 @SamanthaTaghoy So? I said it’s not integral to the Christian faith (it’s not) and not a holy day (it’s not). I didn’t say it wasn’t celebrated. The OP was making stuff up both in terms of overstating Shrove Tuesday and claiming that the ABC and CofE didn’t mention it on social media (they did)

@alysrtarr @SamanthaTaghoy It may not be in the liturgical calendar, but Shrove Tuesday and its symbolism of feast before fasting, is a long, long observed tradition by Christians in this country.

@19Hope60 @SamanthaTaghoy Hi, that’s referring to Samantha’s comment: “It is also The Feast of the Holy Face, a devotion established by Pope Pius XII.” which is a feast only celebrated by the Catholic Church.
Incidentally, Shrove Tuesday isn’t in the liturgical calendar of either CofE or Catholic Church.

@alysrtarr @SamanthaTaghoy Where do you get the idea that Shrove Tuesday is only a feast day for Catholics? I'm born+raised C of E, married to a Catholic (albeit lapsed) +it was always celebrated as a feast before the fasting of Lent (literal or symbolic) in both traditions.

Funny how quickly Lent starts getting mentioned once people point out it’s being ignored.

@ZackGold16 @narindertweets @GilliganMg at this point, the argument becomes “what counts as going to church” and therefore “what counts as a church” - I’ve not got the time to have that discussion now unfortunately, but the principle is that Christians should gather with other Christians regularly.

@ZackGold16 @narindertweets @GilliganMg You’re quoting Matthew 18.17, have a look at the whole passage it’s in (v15-18). The expectation is that Christians will be gathered together, and in a sense under the authority of, a local gathering of believers.
How big or small this gathering is isn’t specified, you’re right.
