@SuperRoy @antonarhipov I'm in favour of verbosity when it improves comprehension as well, but in this case the boilerplate code is the same in 80% of the projects. I prefer Spring experts to provide the most optimal bug-free version of it, on an opt-out basis.

@antonarhipov Then there is no general reason to not choose Spring, if and only if continues the evolution as is. I would choose Quarkus for a pure green field isolated pet project, because I really like it. For an established organization, maintainability and reuse are a must, hence Spring

@SuperRoy @antonarhipov And Quarkus doesn't have internal code to debug? Perhaps its magic just works more as you expect. Or could it be that you're just more familiar with Quarkus magic (maybe because it has less functionality)?

@withgraphite Why not just pair programming? Makes all of this unnecessary and empirically trumps whatever PR-based code review.

@matteocollina @andrewingram Are you saying frameworks like Spring which depend on singletons are a giant anti-pattern?

@andrewingram the vast amount of singletons this requires to work should frighten everybody. Singletons prevents the code to be modular and should be avoided at all cost. Putting it in another way, if you need to mock a module to test your code, you have the wrong pattern.

@toongeens @tompahoward We are both SOC2 and ISO27001 certified, and use pairing and trunk based development. The co-authored-by commit message addendum registers the four-eyes principle. Auditors are fine with this.

@tompahoward What would your approach be to SoC2/ISO 27001 auditors, that ask you for a paper trail of who reviewed a change before it hits production ?

For a green field software project, I mandated trunk based development. Many of the devs were not happy, including the tech lead. There were many complaints during initial team growth, but they agreed to comply for now and we’d revisit in retro. Results? 🤔 1/7
