@RekaCath @ajzeigler Which is a reason to not insist that people read "great" books or classics. Anything that interests them is better than not reading at all.

@anwit07 @ajzeigler All of those are certainly benefits of reading, but a lot of countries are facing a literacy crisis because people don't literally read anymore.

I tire of this debate, but as a teacher: It matters for young people. They need to see the words, the construction of sentences. Most of my students who cannot spell tell me they always listen to audio if they "read" at all.

This moth decided that my feed room was the best place to attract a mate. It is really big. Daughter looked it up and it is the biggest moth in North America. It's pretty spectacular looking.

My grandpa passed away a couple of weeks ago and I have been traveling. He was an incredibly kind man who taught me a lot. I never once heard him yell. I know the comments will be filled with condolences, but here’s the thing: he passed away at 89 years old in his sleep. Surrounded by family. In his own home. I’ve lost friends who weren’t so lucky; whose lives were cut short from war and many times the aftermath of war. I’m so happy I had the chance to really know my grandfather. I’m happy he taught the value of kindness. As sad as I am that the world is without him, I can’t help but hope that someday I get to go out the same way: surrounded by family at an old age.
