@ajzeigler There's a difference in what people see as the point of reading; expanding your mind with great literature, learning how to express your thoughts, acquiring science and history, entertainment...

I tire of this debate, but as a teacher: It matters for young people. They need to see the words, the construction of sentences. Most of my students who cannot spell tell me they always listen to audio if they "read" at all.
Shane Donovan@SDDonovan
Hot take! Audiobooks do NOT count as "reading" the same way picking up a book does.

Ok, we need a young priest and an old priest, some holy water, a couple of crucifixes, and a can of pea soup, and that should cover it. First floor exorcisms only please…

@EODHappyCaptain It is good that you had the opportunity to know your grandfather, both of mine died before I was born.

My grandpa passed away a couple of weeks ago and I have been traveling. He was an incredibly kind man who taught me a lot. I never once heard him yell.
I know the comments will be filled with condolences, but here’s the thing: he passed away at 89 years old in his sleep. Surrounded by family. In his own home.
I’ve lost friends who weren’t so lucky; whose lives were cut short from war and many times the aftermath of war.
I’m so happy I had the chance to really know my grandfather. I’m happy he taught the value of kindness. As sad as I am that the world is without him, I can’t help but hope that someday I get to go out the same way: surrounded by family at an old age.

The UAE successfully hosted the release of American citizen Dennis Coyle from detention in Afghanistan and facilitated his safe return to the United States.
A noble humanitarian initiative that highlights the UAE’s trusted role in promoting peace and global cooperation.

Now that the Tidal Basin Seawall has been restored, we're replacing the trees lost during construction. Funded by the #GAOA & Japan, trees including magnolias, elms, maples, and several varieties of cherry trees are now being planted west of the Jefferson Memorial. 🌸

Wait until they find out we have an entire Government Agency, U.S. Farm Credit, that has been lending a significant portion of its $450 Billion portfolio to foreign entities;
It’s not just that we have been losing our American farmland to foreign interests, we are giving them the loans to buy the land.
And not a single Oversight Hearing held in Congress to address it; and that’s because Farm Credit sends campaign dollars to all of them so that they will look the other way.
Our Government bribing our Government to the detriment of farmers and taxpayers.
