Seems like most people against high speed rail in Canada assume that everyone will ride it for free. And they also appear to assume that there will be no economic or environmental spinoff. We never hear them complain about building more highways or bridges.

The Alberta separatist movement isn’t some unstoppable wave, it’s a loud minority that can’t even hit its own targets. You needed around 350k signatures to show real momentum and you came up with 177k. That’s not a movement, that’s barely a warm up. And even if you somehow crossed that threshold, it doesn’t mean Alberta just walks out of Canada. That’s not how this works. You’re talking about years of legal battles, constitutional hurdles, negotiations with the federal government, Indigenous treaty obligations, economic fallout, currency issues, trade barriers, and massive uncertainty for businesses and workers. Not 90 days, regardless of what Keith says. There’s no clean break. No easy exit. No “just vote and we’re gone.” Meanwhile, the idea that Alberta would somehow be stronger alone ignores reality. The province benefits massively from being part of Canada through internal trade, transfer systems, shared infrastructure, and global credibility. Walking away doesn’t make those problems disappear, it multiplies them. So no, Alberta isn’t leaving Canada. Not now, not anytime soon. And a half completed petition isn’t proof of anything except how small the movement actually is. And to all Albertans that don’t want any part of this, the rest of Canada knows, and we don’t group you all in the same basket! We still love you.

Gas taxes fund road maintenance. Remove the funding, and the potholes don't get fixed. If the potholes aren't fixed, the line is "Look at all the potholes the Liberals caused!!!" Conservatives aren't interested in making your life better, they're interested in making you angry.

Canada is literally the only G7 country without high speed rail. Conservatives want you to continue to pay sky high prices for gas, worsen congestion on roads and make your commute hours longer. We've been "studying" high speed rail for 50 years - time to get it built.

@TrueDerekSloan I can think of another reason why they are limiting visits to once a month.

Canada is facing a moral and spiritual crisis. Most of our problems would still exist to some degree even without some of the glaring mistakes our leaders have made the last few decades, but they have been made significantly worse because of them. Adding millions of extra people to Canada was one such mistake.

The truth is, the Alberta NDP has a long track record of opposing pipelines and energy development. Their extreme views are a danger to jobs and affordability. The UCP will never stop fighting against radical forces, including the Alberta NDP, who want to shut down our economy and keep our resources in the ground.

I'm all for freedom of religion in Canada, it's one of our fundamental rights. But...wtf? I don't want to see our politicians standing in the House of Commons holding a bible or any religious book to their chest.
