Nearly Xmas but @NCVO we’re making sure the rise in employer National Insurance contributions stays in headlines: another front page today. This will cost the sector £1.4bn a year. Charity leaders are going to be making some tough decisions about budgets for next year.

Less than three weeks since the election, it was fantastic to start the day with a meeting with new @DCMS SoS @lisanandy and @JaneIdeCEO. Nothing more energising than discussing the endless ways charities can play a vital role in helping government achieve its missions.

Great to hear ministers valuing the role charities play. Our sector has the experience and understanding to solve some of society's biggest issues, because they tackle them every day. Early collaboration with the sector means better decision-making and, ultimately, bigger impact.

Working in partnership with charities will be vital in delivering the government's missions to halve knife crime in a decade and improve young people's mental health. Collaborating with the sector to develop our Young Futures hubs will be essential in achieving this.

Canvassing this weekend in Woodford this was not the impression residents gave, they were angry about the misleading polls that were put out.
Residents were also excited by the new Labour government. People are looking forward not back.

The Labour leadership thought it was worth losing this seat to Iain Duncan Smith in order to get rid of me (even Ed Balls said so) - now look. And before all those that don’t know Chingford & Woodford Green start chatting rubbish, many of the almost 12.5k people who voted for me wouldn’t have voted for the parachuted in Labour candidate after how they treated me and Labour’s early Gaza stance

My first day in Parliament.
The next week will be filled with inductions, introductions and planning.
I suspect half of this time may be taken up with me getting lost navigating the corridors of Parliament...
Once done, I can't wait to get back to representing the amazing people of Southend East & Rochford.
