this is genuinely a good policy but it’s gonna be implemented terribly. i grew up just as social media was becoming a thing and saw each big platform start and use them as they got bigger. even though i work in social media and owe my career to it over the last 15yrs, and got so much out of it when it first came around, i genuinely think that it’s been a net negative to our society. social media is too easy to spread disinformation, it makes us too emotionally charged about politics, warps our perception of life, opens up the doors to cyber bullying, and puts kids in vulnerable positions too easily, all of which then leads to decreased mental illness. and let’s be honest, social media companies have never and will not do shit to help. i think children will be better off without social media in their early years than with it. but, i know for a fact that this will come with overly controlling controls attached. we’ve already seen the shit show with the controls around porn and gambling of having to hand over your ID to a 3rd party company only for it to be leaked a few months after. social media companies will be even worse with gaining that information so whilst it’s a good idea and kids will be better off without social media until they grow up, it should fall mostly to the parents to implement it and control what their kids do and the government should just support it rather than create a nanny state of handing over your ID to do anything on the internet. what do you think about this though?
