@chrismunns I’ve been able to get it to create draw.io diagrams based on an architecture I described and iterated on with it. The diagrams weren’t terrible.

✅Asked Claude to generate a doc that explains the full AWS Marketplace flow while pointing out which APIs/endpoints get used where. ✅Asked it write Lambda functions for handling those APIs, with place holders for custom business logic. ✅Asked for Terraform deploy script

@chrismunns Moving from an 80s house to a 90s house, I appreciate of how much better code has gotten for things like this, separating lighting from outlet on corxuits, and also requiring neutrals to terminate in switch boxes. Still not crazy about AFCIs though.

And to be clear, I flipped the right breaker in that the light fixture lost power. I just didn’t realize that ceiling light would be wired to the outlets on the far side of the house….. (this madness)

Me when I flipped a breaker to replace the ceiling light fixture in our kitchen nook and the cable box loses power two rooms away (the tv stayed on..):

@chrismunns It’s hard to measure the amplification effect of this. Beyond the obvious synchronous bottleneck, when someone doesn’t do their job, someone has to have bias for action and take care of it. But then that person inevitably sacrifices time spent on something else productive.

You start noticing some ppl never reply to messages on Fridays, ever. Some people disappear after Monday meetings. 2-3 hours a day of availability. No commitment on delivery times. Had someone take 2+ mo to write a page on a topic I seeded for them. Lag, delay, disappear. Repeat.

This is why certain companies are enforcing RTO. During COVID this became rampant at companies that lost sense of meaning and wildly over hired. Bullshit projects and gamified success ladders hidden under too many layers of weak managers. Data came to roost and alas, here we are.
Deedy@deedydas

Everyone thinks this is an exaggeration but there are so many software engineers, not just at FAANG, who I know personally who literally make ~2 code changes a month, few emails, few meetings, remote work, < 5 hours/ week, for ~$200-300k. Here are some of those companies:

@TylerMKing By far the most unforgivable thing about Mac’s is that they don’t support MST which means most docks that support dual extended displays via USB-C simply won’t work with Mac. It’s infuriating.

So glad Apple finally announced MST support this week so we can finally use USB docks with dual extended monitors. A feature PCs have supported for… a decade? Also, they didn’t announce this and it still doesn’t exist on Mac.

9 y/o kid: Dad what are you doing? Me: Looking at houses on Zillow Kid: We just bought a house, don’t tell me we’re buying another! Me: No, I’m just seeing if there’s any I like better than what we bought. Kid: Why? That seems like torturing yourself Great point. Smart kid.

Anyway, please forgive my little Monday morning temper tantrum. There are worse problems to have -- like no one caring, or it not being a real problem, or not having a solution. I stopped correcting people's definitions of observability back in ~2021, and I'm over it. Mostly 🙃

So, we lost the battle to define observability. You know it, I know it. Observability was supposed to *mean* something, and in the early days, it did. "Observability" once meant the kind of exploratory, open ended investigation our systems increasingly demand.

@GergelyOrosz I love the access both customers and AWS field teams have to product team. It’s part of “working backwards.” It’s deeply ingrained and I love it.

Talking with devs at AWS & AWS customers, one thing that AWS does better than almost any vendor: Talking to customers. Ask yourself: which other vendor called you, to want to meet and have *their PM* directly talk to you? AWS does this all the time. Hard to believe but true:

The guy sitting next to me on the plane (maybe late 40s) kept switching between watching baseball, studying chord progressions in a book about jazz guitar, and looking at a medical manual with diagrams of human skeletons. He was either the most eclectic man in the world, or a serial killer. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not a hotel design person but I don't think I'd put a room directly above a 24hr fitness center where weights sound like they're being used in a game of dodgeball
