Speaking as a woman, an elder, a teacher, someone with religious and spiritual responsibility, I urge you to consider the gravity of this upcoming election: consider character, integrity, a just economy, reproductive freedom, care in relation to climate and immigration issues.

In a heroic move, Gisele Pelicot fought to make public the videos of her unconscious rapes at the hands of over 50 men and won. She wanted the public “to look rape straight in the eyes.” Shame, she said, must change sides —from the victims to the perpetrators. Police found more than 20,000 videos and photographs of Gisele drugged and being raped by various men on her husband’s devices in a folder titled “Abuse.” On Friday, the judge complied with Gisele’s demand and showed the evidence “necessary for the manifestation of the truth.” 12 rape videos and 10 photos were shown over the courtroom’s three flat screens and projected into the overflow room for members of the public while the perpetrators in the videos sat in shame watching their own despicable criminal acts being exposed.

Here we are again, faced with the threat of a government shut down. It is the result of catastrophic errors in decision-making that masquerade as governance.

BREAKING: A cop in Nevada brutalizes peaceful climate protesters from @ExtinctionR and @RaveRevolution trying to block access to #burningman over the festival's carbon footprint. Scary to watch. As we grow stronger, they become more vicious. ⤵️

This is an amazing memoir encompassing the horror of being a combat medic in the worst military battle in history and the journey of finding love at a time when it was illegal to be a gay man. #vietnamwar #combatveteran, #gayveteran. Congratulations John!

@violadavis writes in her memoir: “You know, when you’re poor, you live in an alternate reality. It’s not that we have problems different from everyone else, but we don’t have the resources to mask them. We’ve been stripped clean of social protocol.” So true. Thank you.

Believing/pretending some things are not harmful because it is convenient is literally killing the planet. As the saying goes, you do don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see the problem. Corporate interests triumph at global expense once again. theguardian.com/environment/20…
