does anyone have a bit of experience with THREDDS from Unidata? I'm really interested in getting multiple data sources from that resource. thanks!

@frq_ltg @Djpuco @ztresearch And then you can use your meteorological imagination to work backward to the hydrometeor fluxes (history of riming in the mixed phase) that might lead to such structures. In that way, the spatial extent of lightning is also a clue to those fluxes.

I just had to return to Europe's unparalleled CG lightning barrage. ECMWF profile shows abundant and deep CAPE, plus good shear. A low cloud base could have led to charge centers being close to the ground. Any other thoughts?

Different kinds of random walks ("stochastic processes") can be used to express solutions to many fundamental equations found in science & engineering ("PDEs"). These can in turn be used to develop Monte Carlo solvers. Here I visually catalog a few of the connections. #MCMA2023

Question for my college faculty friends (especially graduate admission coordinators). Would a jointly written (and signed) letter be viewed favorably? My post-doc mentored student (I helped but less involved). Requests came to me, but student has hinted at joint letter.

this is wild — kNN using a gzip-based distance metric outperforms BERT and other neural methods for OOD sentence classification intuition: 2 texts similar if cat-ing one to the other barely increases gzip size no training, no tuning, no params — this is the entire algorithm:

@RodneyDMoore5 @SarahFromTTUPM That’s really useful! I think that’s what I’m after: clearly something is known about those tradeoffs, and without pinpointing a precise budget we can ask if the city is ready to take on those install and maintenance models (and their cost models).

@deeplycloudy @SarahFromTTUPM It’s really hard to pinpoint numbers without a design outlook unfortunately. What is know is this: bricks require less maintenance but are harder to maintain when needed, asphalt is easier to maintain but requires continuous work every few years. A hybrid is most likely.
