Every negative review I’ve seen talks about the movie and what they didn’t like. Even the positive ones agree it’s shallow and gives no new insight

Just watched the #Michaelmovie. Let me tell you: - It's not perfect, but the bad reviews are absolutely BS and agenda driven.

If multiple women came forward accusing Bowie of sexually abusing them as children it would be a different story. They didn’t. Not one.

Who’s getting excited about bad reviews or crying about public reaction? Maybe it’s just not that good a movie and it’s not some anti MJ conspiracy

A handful of negative reviews are like this btw No doubt that the biopic IS sanitised due to the fact that it’s sanctioned by MJ’s estate but this is just ridiculous

this 100%. it's a good movie, it's surface-level MJ for the fans, but it's definitely the real him that the general audience doesn't know about - and that's what the critics hate. it shows you Michael as he is authentically, and not as how the media portrays him.

@HVST3RIA It’s a percentage of who liked it not a score. Every bad review talks about it being shallow and lacking real insight and that’s why they didn’t like it. Even the positive reviews mostly say that. They all literally have the same complaints as you do.

Pretty much every review calls it shallow and lacking any deep insight. That’s why it’s getting bad reviews.

@JuliaBerkowitz1 Some of those reviews are bs anyways. Some of them didn’t review the movie just complained certain things weren’t mentioned. It’s one thing to criticize if certain things didn’t work but I think some of them wanting this movie to hate from the start

Imagine going to the cinema & coming out pissed off that you DIDN'T get to see a man being accused of abuse, being strip searched, photographed naked, sued by the accusers for $30m, being investigated & entering rehab. The critics genuinely wanted to see that. Weird fuckers.

@HVST3RIA They all mention the shallowness and lack of insight. The fact that they wanted to include the allegations and couldn’t legally makes pointing that out relevant. None of them disliked the movie solely for that. Even positive reviews concede it’s shallow and presents nothing new.

notice how they didn't include elvis in this even tho critics loved it but somehow they never adressed the fact that he was a pedophile in his film, and nobody complained either.

@splashmoons They are film critics. Their job is to criticize film, not reflect what the general audience will think. Some of you are acting like you don’t understand what critics are or do. It’s genuinely insane how some of you are reacting to critics not liking a movie.

They’re behind their computers with no real sense of how people feel about Michael. Meanwhile, he’s breaking streaming & viewing records & drawing millions of viewers to docs on his innocence. The media is out of touch with the audience. They need to touch grass. #michaelmovie

Reactions to ‘Michael’ are baffling! The film is genuinely one of the best music biopics we’ve ever gotten. Yes, highly clichè and sanitized but it’s git incredible performances, it’s beautifully crafted, and is a genuinely killer time at the cinema. A tremendous celebration.

Remember to save screenshots of all of those reviews when this movie comes out and makes a shit ton of money. That’s exactly what happened with the musical

A film critics job should be to use common sense. Anyone dumb enough to think MJ’s personal and professional life as a kid and an adult along with marriages, kids and those proven false allegations are going to fit in a 2 hour 7 minute movie - they’re idiots. Sorry not sorry. But Janet had a whole 3 night / 4 hour documentary on JUST her personal life - not even professional and thats 4 hours for HER. People are so unserious and predictable. Jackson family fans see right through the mass media, critics and now that we live in the social media age, influencers which are taking the same song and dance the media has done since the 80s. Positivity for the Jackson family is not lucrative - bullshit is though.

Today is a reminder that a film critic's job doesn't include agreeing with your fandom. It's to analyze and evaluate a film and to put them into context, objectively, from a journalistic POV and within the greater context of film history. Many of us are fans of Michael Jackson, but *as a film critic* that's not an automatic stamp of approval for a film. We're not judging his discography, choreography or talent here. We're simply focused on critiquing the FILM. Furthermore, a negative piece of film criticism shouldn't dissuade you from seeing a movie about a man that may be a major idol to you.
