Good paying jobs wonโ€™t be โ€œwaitingโ€ for graduates. You will still need to get that education first. If you have the money, great. If not, get a loan and invest in your education. Jobs are not only local, itโ€™s a global marketplace! You will be left behind if you do not understand this concept.

@Meterma15886304 @Bigmaceaterrr @dnmunroe @JamaicaObserver Lol, it's blind devotion like you're showing that is why we can do better. The Prime Minister of Barbados said that you can be telling education is key to success or work hard at it as time has passed. We have to foster good paging jobs for the graduates.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams has made an appeal to students not to shy away from taking on debt to finance their education. Williams, who pointed out that Studentsโ€™ Loan Bureau (SLB) interest rates are in the single digits, underscored the importance of higher education as a pathway to national development. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/04/02/funโ€ฆ

There is something insidious and morally wrong about that party. Too many serious allegations murder, incest, buggery involving people connected to that party. At some point, people need to open their eyes and realize something is clearly amiss.

@stuartsmellie Many people have taken it and paid it off. Some like the PM suffered embarrassment with the publishing of a delinquent list. Yet still the incomes today far exceed what they borrowed. Besides no one can take your education away from you regardless of the struggle!

Yeah man, rock her again. Let's say you take out a loan and get higher education...what are your employment prospects gonna be like? Will you be able to earn enough to pay it off within a reasonable time frame will being able to live and pay your bills?

The Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS) has clapped back at a statement made by Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams on loans prioritisation, insisting that students who assume financial obligations for their education must be positioned to maximise the return on that investment through meaningful employment opportunities, career progression, and long-term financial stability. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/04/06/neeโ€ฆ

@KingBrad_ @RoshedoWilliams What he earns at work is irrelevant here. The key point is he askedโ€”no one is obligated to give. If he were caught stealing, the criticism would make sense. But this outrage just because heโ€™s in Parliament feels excessive and overly emotional.

@BigMeeish @winstonorr3 If you take an SLB loan of 1.2-1.4M (usually for a first degree) you would be paying back roughly $8-10K monthly on an $80K salary, thatโ€™s just 10%. A car loan repayment is on average around $20-30K monthly! I know people who took car loans on a $80-100K monthly salary.

@dnmunroe @winstonorr3 You can find a call center job that pays 80k a month fairly quickly these days with the high churn rate. Problem is a 1/4th of that will be going to your loan, an 8th towards transport expenses, that's 30k already gone. All this is to say many with student loans are struggling

I agree the minister said nothing wrong. But degrees are often mathematical decisions with emotional emphasis. Many peopleโ€™s degrees have not served them well. Not all degrees are equalโ€”and not all are worth borrowing for.
