Good paying jobs won’t be “waiting” for graduates. You will still need to get that education first. If you have the money, great. If not, get a loan and invest in your education. Jobs are not only local, it’s a global marketplace! You will be left behind if you do not understand this concept.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams has made an appeal to students not to shy away from taking on debt to finance their education. Williams, who pointed out that Students’ Loan Bureau (SLB) interest rates are in the single digits, underscored the importance of higher education as a pathway to national development. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/04/02/fun…

There is something insidious and morally wrong about that party. Too many serious allegations murder, incest, buggery involving people connected to that party. At some point, people need to open their eyes and realize something is clearly amiss.

@stuartsmellie Many people have taken it and paid it off. Some like the PM suffered embarrassment with the publishing of a delinquent list. Yet still the incomes today far exceed what they borrowed. Besides no one can take your education away from you regardless of the struggle!

Some of you will be quick to take out a car loan but refuse to take out a student loan to pay for school. Fayval didn't say anything wrong

@Legendaryl876W @dnmunroe @KingBrad_ @RoshedoWilliams I voted JLP in the last election, and I’m honestly baffled by the outrage. A councillor abused his power to avoid paying taxes, yet the focus is on a man doing a TikTok live in a pool? Make it make sense 🤦‍♂️

@kurtbartough @KingBrad_ @RoshedoWilliams He signed a code of conduct that should guide his behavior. Showing up on a public platform half naked is not decorum of a MP. What’s next? He gonna come online with a spliff inna him mouth and you gonna say it’s personal life in defence? Stop making excuses!

@KingBrad_ @RoshedoWilliams What he earns at work is irrelevant here. The key point is he asked—no one is obligated to give. If he were caught stealing, the criticism would make sense. But this outrage just because he’s in Parliament feels excessive and overly emotional.

@BigMeeish @winstonorr3 If you take an SLB loan of 1.2-1.4M (usually for a first degree) you would be paying back roughly $8-10K monthly on an $80K salary, that’s just 10%. A car loan repayment is on average around $20-30K monthly! I know people who took car loans on a $80-100K monthly salary.

@dnmunroe @winstonorr3 You can find a call center job that pays 80k a month fairly quickly these days with the high churn rate. Problem is a 1/4th of that will be going to your loan, an 8th towards transport expenses, that's 30k already gone. All this is to say many with student loans are struggling

This was already factored in when SLB give 12-14 months moratorium after graduation before loan repayment begins. One would consider that sufficient time to acquire a job. A car loan is only as safe as long as you hold a job to make loan payments. Some banks include an insurance policy to reduce risk which is tied in your loan repayments!

@winstonorr3 This is probably not going to be a popular opinion but I think SLB should factor in future job prospects in their decision to administer a loan. Like the car loan example, the banks have crunched the numbers every which way to decide if you are worth the risk. SLB should too.
