I'm sad to lose the Epiphany, one of our must beautiful Feasts when properly observed. Two nearby churches observed it 3 days early (!). I can't find any local parish with a service on Jan 6. I wish I could go to the proper one at St Thomas Fifth. It will be livestreamed at 5:30.

As long as John the Baptist continures as the central character of the 2nd and 3rd Sundays in Advent, it's clear that the season is focused on radical repentance and apocalyptic expectation, not joy and fun. It's a counterweight to premature celebration. That should be a comfort.

The solution to difficult to read texts isn’t to ignore them—or, worse yet, claim they are irrelevant—but to learn to read them in the #Light. It’s #lazytheology to blame the #scriptures for our poor #interpretation of them.

We damage the dignity of others when we refuse to wait for them—whether they need to tie their own shoes or they are struggling to find words for the indescribable. We bestow honor on another when we consider them worth waiting for.
